I’ve been checking the weather forecast for my amazing 10km run and it’s TERRIBLE! Cold and wet, and that won’t be fun in cut off denim jeans. So I went to Decathlon after work yesterday evening and just had time to try on most of the women’s running department, and half the men’s before they closed.
I found leggings that are almost long enough and have the all important pocket for my phone, and fabulous PINK tops, one lightweight, one warmer for when the weather gets colder and a waterproof/windjammer that folds into a tiny pouch. I like my matching outfits and these tops match my running shoes AND my running face🤗
What I couldn’t understand was how fabric that is essentially plastic could ‘wick’ moisture away. So I did a test run and wore my new running uniform for a 5km run to my friends’ house, where I collapsed on their couch! (Get it? 5K2C)
I arrived shouting ‘pink person at the door’! No one is going to miss me in this get up! And yes this clothing does seem to do its wicking thing. No sweat patches on my back as usual, and once I got going not too hot or cold. It’s difficult to know how many layers and what thicknesses to set out in now that summer is over.
So that’s me ready for Friday’s 10km. Then I was thinking of giving up running for the winter.
Oh no, I've just invested in proper gear, so will have to continue to get my money’s worth. There is just no excuse! 🏃♂️👚

Ooh, I LOVE your pink top. and we will get you in funky leggings eventually LOL! Also you will be fine for your 10k run once you get going. even in the coldest weather, you soon warm up running. At the Blenheim 10k race last Sunday it was 7 degrees and misty. I and others (some of them in shorts and racing back vests) were shivering at the start, but within minutes of running I was really warm in a short sleeved top. And that wicking material also wicks rain water away from your body
Haha, I remember posting a while back about hoe I would have to keep running till I die to justify the money I've spent on gear.
I just wore a vest to my race last Sunday. I was pleased I did cos it got dead ‘ot 😤. I did have layers with me though, just in case Luckily these things are so bendy and light that they cram into a small space or round our waist til needed
Yep, the sweat wicking thing keeps sweat away from your body so you don’t get the chills. So, here you are all sorted for cold weather running adventures. Layering is the thing, so a lightweight run jacket over the top which can be whipped off when you get hot and bothered. I had to strip off a layer last night These things are light and flexible so can be tied around the waist.
The tights will afford you more comfort than jeans You”ll be able to flex those legs much better 👍
So, you tested it all out Yet? 😃👍💪🏃♀️ Have fun. Oh did you get a cap? That would be a good idea. Cheap as chips I got mine from Aldi with matching jacket 🙂
Fab gear!! Need to be seen on the dark days, the brighter the better! 👍😁
Baddy - you’re a girl ! 😆i might have just that too. Does it have holes for your thumbs which means the sleeves become gloves? Looking good for a pirate 😉
Brilliant gear. Love your post. A pair of gloves (not too thick to start with) that will end up in a pocket or down your bra - maybe that just me - will be needed and a cap, or something to cover your ears. Then you are all set as you will be winter running won’t you: statement not question as winter running is great as long as there’s no ice about.
Also generally accepted thought when looking at temperatures is dress as if it’s 10 degrees warmer.
I will now you've told me to! And will think if you each time I make it out for a run in the winter.
Thanks for the gloves and cap/ear covering tip. Will work on those when it gets one step colder...
You won't catch me running in icy weather after last years escapade just walking across the car park...one broken wrist, (now expertly plated, thank you so much amazing NHS) and I think I broke a bone in my hand too 😩
I ran Royal Parks HM two weeks ago in torrential rain, so a couple of tips if I may?
1) would def recommend a cap to keep rain out of eyes- also prevents plastered-hair look in photos!
2) I suffered some uncomfortable chafing, which I’d never had before, which I guess was down to being soaked through to skin, which then got soft. Might be an idea to use vaseline/chafing cream where tighter bits of underclothing touch!
Otherwise, you can only get wet once, you won’t overheat and you’ll be fine! ( that’s what I kept telling myself, anyway 😂). The kit looks great! Have a good run.
Generalising here but most people’s road shoes aren’t waterproof. Just stuff the with newspaper and leave in a warm place to dry but not on a radiator (that’s official advice), mine go in bottom of airing cupboard but others have said that they put the on the rads. If really wet take the insoles out.
Waterproof shoes: if water gets in over the tops stays inside the shoe? So you would be running in a puddle in your shoe 😂. Never checked it out, just guessing.
There are waterproof socks, at a price obvs, if you want but I’ve honestly never felt the need.
Oooooh, lovely running kit 😍. Winter running is fab, just need to layer appropriately. I just invested in some true winter running tights and jacket (I'm on the prairies in Canada where winter is COLD) so am better prepared this year. Huge investment but so worth it!
On a trail run a couple weeks ago, my running partner and I saw a bull moose and cow. Fortunately they ran away from us, up the coulee and over the top of the ridge. They were gorgeous and huge, but I wouldn't want to see one up close.
They're huge and can be quite territorial and will charge if they feel threatened. Running our trail, I could see huge hoof prints so was watching closely and was quite relieved to see them running away from us. I love wildlife but definitely respect them and prefer to see them from afar!
Great new year! I've got 'waterproof' trail shoes for grass and they are not waterproof! Slightly less damp than in my main shoes but not completely! 👟👟🌧🌧🙄
