I have been running now for almost 10 months.Well really 9 months because of one months hamster wheel hedge cutting.π
Cannot believe the motivational magic from this forum that has seen an almost seamless progression from C25k, B210k, half marathon, summer and autumn speed challenges, two personal monthly tests of continuous running, one twice per day for a month ,the other same distance but once per day.Building upto 50-60 km per week.
Due to family holiday commitments and jury duty Nov/Dec are looking busy, and I am trying to set my running stall out so I can seamlessly progress into 2019.
Top of my list is 3x20 min sessions of mitochondria renewal and VO2 max improvement as per β Get fit in 6 minsβ.
Next on my list is continuous daily running for 21days per month and base load of 42 km per week minimum including the above intervals.π€With a week 4 as a reset of 22k/week.
Not sure how itβs going to fit together yet, but at least I am comfortable that I tried two running sessions per day.
Not sure of the value of my gym strength sessions going forward now, because I am just not getting there anyway, apart from my weekly woodland workout. That I will not miss , because of the coach and the group.
Bit like missing out on this forum.π€π
I am so pleased I have tested out some stuff and undoubtedly because of my slow pace it has been kind to me and no overuse injuries and given me the confidence and some valuable flexibility to be able to pursue some more stuff.
Happy to be close to home, the pressure of events although I am sure truly amazing, just not for me now.Younger yes. Probably do the two or three new park runs on the island and perhaps a new Holy Island marathon in August, but it is very early days.
That reality would just have to stack up.
Sorry for the thinking out loud, but so many options and choices, including just the enjoyment of running, but coming to this late in life I want both or indeed everything that running and this forum does give.
Running the golden thread that binds this forum together.
Wow!! I think your are an inspiration for all of us βnewbiesβ. That is quite the list or accomplishments. I hope to be able to have a list half that long in the next 10 months. ππ»ππ»
I love what you've written Tbae. You've achieved so much in just 10 months - I feel breathless just reading it!
And I completely agree with what you say about options and choices, so many different ways to enjoy running and, like you, I want to try them all (except marathons, I can't see me ever wanting to do a marathon!)
I look forward to hearing all about your adventures over the next few months πββοΈπ
You younger ones have many more and other responsibilities. So fitting stuff in is not as easy.
But enjoy this gift of running to yourself and follow the well established low intensity guide rules and build up slowly.
You will amaze yourself.
Time is on your side.
I have come to running at 75 and I am blown away by this forum and the medical factual information and links on here.So a little different for me.No regrets, just glad I found this forum and running.
Be kind to yourself and just enjoy it all and keep yourself clear of overuse.
Keep an open mind and donβt rule anything out too early.
All running is magic.Nothing quite like it.As a Prof said on βGet Fit in 6minsβ itβs mandatory and we know the consequences of not doing it.π€
Excellent post Tbae. You have come a long way and still have far to go. One thing about the running life, itβs never boring, individual runs maybe but not the whole. I too wish Iβd found the forum earlier (only 1, c25k when I started) but here I am 6 years on still loving and learning. Looking forward to your further musings and exploits.
A favourite word of mine is serendipity. A lot of us are here with the help of serendipity. Enjoyment, love of running and perseverance keep us here.
Thankfully healing is happening at a pace I can see for now, it is bound to slow down but at the moment each day is bringing firstsπ. Today I managed to get my socks and my trainers on and laces tied all by myself. I sound like a 4yr old π.
Itβs great to have choices isnβt it Tbae! πβ€οΈ Youβve done so much in such a short time already! ππ»ππ»ππ»ππββοΈπ₯
Iβm less ambitious than you for now, but, as you say, Iβve a few more years to take my time with things. Am just enjoying the unexpected gift of running still, and vaguely thinking Iβll train for a HM at some point next year. π
Have finally looked up the meaning of your βGet fit in 6 minsβ references. Sounds like an interesting reason to do HIIT. π
My Dad is finally βmedically fitβ for discharge from hospital now thanks, Tbae. Just awaiting a decision on whether he goes back to his old nursing home to serve 4 weeks notice, or whether they can fill his room and let him go straight to the home he wants to move to...β€οΈ
I cannot believe what you have achieved in such a short time! I am not sure I will use my retirement so wisely but you never know.. the way these running journeys pan out, maybe I WILL find time and belief for that marathon one day! Keep on inspiringβΊ.
Amazing you are. I am sorry I have not caught up with your story
but I have caught sight of your wisdom, kindness and advice.
Without name dropping, Floss has sang your praises and recognition on here.
I have no doubt you will achieve everything you wish to as your time permits.
Maybe Sandra for me the egg timer has got less flips. TBH I am not in any rush, just consumed by it and cannot believe my good fortune to find running, this forum, the links to everything running.
HIT mitchondria replacement medical research,β Get Fit in 6 minsβ, glib title, but mind blowing stuff.
Then perhaps not when you think of the impact of abdominal breathing and modest fasting and how it can accelerate the repair of our bodies and much more.Must say I do not practise consistantly either , but believe the medical research.
We are in charge of an amazing piece of kit that was made to run.
Sorry gone off on one.π
I look forward to catching up with your story.
Your are very wise and you will achieve everything you wish.I just know I can run a marathon,πbut at my run all day pace it is a very big shift.
Take good care of you, time and belief, your right on the money, just dial it in when you are ready and itβs almost done, only the training to do.
You are truly an inspiration - I can only dream of the targets you have reached - you must be so proud. This forum as you say is also inspirational and having the support and guidance on here has been invaluable for many of us.
Iβm too scared to enter a half marathon at the moment, however, but it is on my βto doβ list for next year.
Thanks for this πππββοΈπββοΈ
What a lovely picture Tbae, and how well organised you are working out what you want to do next year.
The beauty of this forum is that it revolves around people of all ages and situations, but we all share this special journey from the couch. We can all add something to the pot and look for advice when needed.
Yes Dexy, that is Crib Goch ArΓͺte heading to Snowdon peak.
Too much going on in Nov/Dec and just trying to see what I can fit in.
Going off to the ME., to see family and jury duty is a commitment I have experieced before.
Hope you and UTS are good and what a contribution you both make to the pot.π₯πββοΈπββοΈπ₯
Loved your GP post recently.πππ
I had an MOT recently. All normal stuff good.π€I am no medic, but I get confused with the statin choice.eg.
I have been on statin and aspirin for years to obviously reduce my risk of stroke and heart attack.
Think I am going to increase my dosage of statin and change my Chlopidogrel to reduce my risk further.
Just feel I am doing everything on exercise, nutrition, and not OTT with alcohol.
Sometimes it is not easy to arrive at the best decision.Even when all the information is here on all the other communities of wonderful HealthUnlocked and our forum.
Even with overstretched GPβs and lack of continuity, for me ,I do like to be reassured face to face in at least making a sound call.π€
Just think if something reduces your risk, then that is the first priority.π€
Take good care of you both.
π₯πββοΈπββοΈπ₯ππ
Bloody hell you are amazing! I hope Iβm doing as well when I get to your age. Inspirational, and you always take time to encourage the rest of us π
