I am in week 7 of 10 the magic number JuJuβs 10 k plan.
Our Panther leader drops gems π all over the place as does many others on the forum as we shuffle along finding them and doing stuff that meets our unique needs.π€
These are my thoughts now that I am going to practise. What and why.π€
I am going Freestyle.
I consider after 4-5 years activity and 7 months running I am ready to adopt this.
My walking pace is 12mins/ km, 10K & HM pace -10 mins / km, 5k- pace 8 mins / km.So it is slow and easy on my body anyway. In time looking to improve 5k and 10K pace.HM and brisk walking, present happy pace is fine, I will not bother with increasing my brisk walking pace , would rather run, and it is easier on my body.
I have got at present an HM readiness fitness bank, which I am going to reduce to a 10K setting.
I am going to just run daily, streaking or just when I please, and at any time my running brain chooses. All my body needs to know that it will always be warmed up properly when called upon to run.
I think to maintain 10k/ HM readiness I will think about doing 20-25km per week π€ and test and reassure my running brain by doing a one off 10-15k distance once per month that this is the case and both are happy and coming to the party.π€π
So it is going to be generally little and often and shorter distances.
I am using an analogy of how potential energy translates into kinectic energy in engineering systems.Weird I know.ππ.Cannot change what I am.π
Of course I am not trying to influence anyone, we are all different, I am just trying to find more sustainable enjoyment.
The correct demands/programmes of marathons and ultra marathons at a given stage look daunting until achieved, I would imagine.π€
Have to say this post is just not relevant to the initial building and strengthening C25k adaption programme and for a suitable time period thereafter.
My thoughts have not ignored the guidance rules, nor increased any personal risk to my running journey.
Consolidation/ bridge/ marathon and the complete forum have helped me arrive at this point.
I am on my way enjoying and looking for the answers,
We are human we are dancers.
No hedge cutting until I unloaded all these ramblings.ππ
Have a great week our Panther leader and her panther cubs and of course everyone.π₯πββοΈπββοΈππ₯

Love your posts Tbae! So are you going to start doing consecutive days? Iβm tempted to too. Also wanting to up my mileage but thinking to do so with a couple of short runs (2-4km) in between my normal routine runs, but I donβt want to get tired legs π€ Have a great week too! ππΎββοΈππ½
Itβs a bit like the thinking behind fartlek, speed play, there is no plan, just freestyle do your own thing, well almost. The Swedes have a lot to answer for.π€πππ.
But seriously I have applied my engineering knowledge to this. Itβs not a drama, and I am on my way.Hedge cutting done for today, brain says run, so run it is.π Family arrive late tonight.
Love this, and your plan sounds like you have approached it sensibly. I look forward to hearing your progress and good luck on the 1 million miles of hedge cutting you will be doing today
That song Tbae is "500 Miles" by the Scottish group from Fife, The Proclaimers, the lyrics are:-
"When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be, I'm gonna be the next man who wakes up next to you, when I go out yea, well I know I am gonna be the man who goes along with you, if I get drunk well I know I am gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you, and if I haver up (talk rubbish for our English friends) yea I know I am I know I am the man who's havering up to you.
The chorus goes:- "But I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more, just to be the man that would walk 1000 miles to fall down at your door.
There are another 3 verses but I won't bore any of our English friends with any more lyrics of that song, At the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 20 14, the song was always played between events taking place throughout the city.
Go on yourself Alan.I am letting the side down.πππ
Hope you are well and your hip twinges settling down.π€
Yes I remember now , it was hugely popular and successful.
I am just an oddball I think on occasions.Very proud Scot and Highlander though.Hope no one sees this, they might not let me back in at the border.π€πππ
Tbae, you are not letting the side down, I actually heard that record by the Proclaimers this morning on the radio. I am very well indeed but the hip twings are still there but not as sore as last week, I am not sure if the running caused that. Will still go for short runs, usually on a Saturday and Wednesday but until it goes completely a full 5K run is not on. You are not an oddball sort of guy, a nice guy, yes but not an oddball, yes I agree that you are a very proud Scot from the Highland region of Scotland, I hope you are coping with the heat, the temperature at the moment where I am is 18c, I notice in London it is 27c.
We are not so bad for temperatures on Anglesey.π
Got family here from Dubai, they are feeling the cold.ππ
They have just been with my son in lawβs parents in Hampshire, another layer required here difference.
Take good care of you and glad the hip healing and strengthening heading in the right direction.Quite right to back off, you have a lifetime of cycling in there and a very fast natural running pace for your years.
I bet we will see you even stronger.ππ
I would not mind having a few jars next to you,but the 500 miles at your pace is just a dream. The 500 miles is not the problem , it is your pace.π₯πββοΈπ₯π
Ha Ha Tbae, run, walk or cycle 500 miles is a bit too much for me now, by the way, I have just come back from of all places Burger King where I enjoyed a nice Chicken Royal, fries, a cold drink of raspberry kola and an ice cream, I only go there once every 3 weeks, being 10 st 5lbs (66 kilos) I think I have an excuse to eat a little junk food now and then.
I think you're right to follow your body. You have the wisdom of years to not overdo things and a level of fitness people half your age envy. Sounds like win, win to me! ππβ
Not gaga yet Jo, and at least I have the common sense not to try and catch up with your pace.Well thatβs a start.πππ
I do dream though of being able to better my pace.ππ
I have the best in built monitor system.Negative into a positive,π€ my macula fragility,if I push too much I know immediately in my vision.π
How lucky am I.πππ
Saving a fortune on smarts and techie gear.π¦would not know how to use it anyway. Loved your reply to Bazza.
Take good care of you Jo.π₯πββοΈπ₯πππ₯
All interesting. Iβm doing it a little differently, one long run a week, and shortish (2-5k) with mid length (6-8k). This seems to have evolved for me and isnt hard and fast, it depends on how much sleep Iβve had, how my body feels, how far I went on the previous run. Sometimes I run two consecutive days now. Itβs fun doing this in my 70s because my body responds differently to when I ran in my teens, I respect it more and donβt have the illusion that nothing bad will happen to me if I push my limits too far or fast.
Thatβs great Flick and you have got a nice balance and good controls there.
I was following the three runs per week during my consolidation period and JuJuβs magic 10.
Yes building up each week a long easy run until I completed an HM.
Got so much gardening to catch up with now and I have utilised JuJuβs ideas in , streaking, distance readiness and her lock in certainty switch to convince myself to go completely freestyle without incurring any increased risk of injury.
It is all JuJuβs ideas and a poor male that cannot multi task that has driven me along this path.
TBH I have always wanted to run every day anyway.I now consider I have strengthened enough to do it.
I am on my way.
You have done well to get yourself sorted. Very well done you.π₯πββοΈπ₯
Thankyou for your kind words... just please take care of you ( as you like to say). I know you have a very good level of fitness and that you wonβt go hell for leather..foam roll, strengthening and taking care of your mind will all help. I realise now that whilst our ancestors ran every day, we have not and it takes the body a long time to adjust.....but anything is possible.
Thatβs great advice and I will certainly abide by it.I am certainly a new runner.I am really impressed with the infinite opportunities and always held the simple view I was solely responsible for my actions.
Thank you Julia you are so kind,itβs in your genes and of course your profession.
I am not going to risk my running journey and will back off if needed.Plus I will be keeping you constantly informed throughout wk7&8 and again back on your bus.
I am good and it is largely due to you and the support of the forum.First time I picked up on Freestyle was also in one of your supportive replies to someone just the other day.
Thank you woman of steel and our Panther leader.π₯πββοΈππ₯
