Day 3 of Blazin' in Beauly ... fiddle and other music workshops with the excellent "Blazin' Fiddles". I was keen to get my 10k run done before the late night music sessions really took their toll. As it happens, I was already feeling mentally exhausted by day 3, and decided to forgo the afternoon singing and groupwork sessions and put on my running shoes as soon as an unexpected lunchtime rain shower finished. The sun came back out and off I went, out of the village and up an increasingly steep hill between fields. The hill became so steep I had to walk some of it - but there were fabulous views from the top. The autumn colours this year are gorgeous, enhanced against blue skies when the sun shines.
The return section of the loop was mostly downhill - sometimes too steep for comfort. When I arrived back in the village I needed to find 1.2 miles extra to make the 10k. Suddenly my legs felt like lead and it was a real question of mind over matter to force myself to keep going, trotting around the small housing estates then down to the river, resisting the urge to take a shortcut back to my campervan! That's the most tired I've felt in months ... I'm sure it was the sleep deprivation that did it!
