Cold and very wet 8K this morning and chuffed that I managed it.
I struggle with wearing long sleeved tops as I get too hot (I prob don’t but in my brain I do). However by the end of my run today my arms and hands were numb where they were cold. Any advice?
Also as I can see 10K getting closer .... although not there yet? I’m wondering what comes next. Obviously consolidation and working in times but I like a challenge because I’m a stubborn mare and if I’ve got a target I’m more likely to keep going!!!!

Are you wearing gloves? Under Armour do some great ones with soft patches on thumb and forefinger like sweatbands.
After 10k? Come back when you’ve done it and let us know how you feel. I just about managed it - 8k was really comfortable; 9k and 10k weren’t. I’m now building back up to 10k a second time, taking it more gradually this time. Excess weight was (and still is) my downfall - I carb-loaded but many months ago 🤣
The obvious next thing is a HM but that is getting on for 2.5 times as far. Too much for me; may be great for you. Alternatively aim for 15k or some other random distance/duration.
I’ll have a look at gloves! With the weather getting chillier I think it might be a good idea!!!
Absolutely! I’m not jumping ahead of myself but I was wondering about what comes next while I was running! My main two goals at the moment are increasing both distance and speed. I’m not worrying about my pace on long runs I’m just focusing on getting to the end! But def would like to get my pace up on the shorter distances.
I’ve been carb loading all my life .... I knew I’d start running one day!!!
I can’t see a HM but I couldn’t see myself doing 5K 6 months ago so never say never!!!
Great run Elles!! Well done you. Brilliant! I’m sure 10k will not be too far away for you! 🤩
I had a similar experience with cold hands after running in the rain last week, so I bought a nice pair of Neoprene gloves in Aldi today. They also had waterproof socks!! So I got a pair of those too. I’m getting ready for the changing elements!! 🤣❤️
I can't give you much advice about your arms and hands as I haven't found a solution yet. But my first thought will be to wear a pair of fleecey gloves when it gets colder.
I graduated a few days ago and I'm having vague thoughts of working towards a HM. I may not actually enter one but just run the distance. Right now I'm interested in boosting my fitness generally so I'm thinking I'll do two interval sessions per week plus one long run at the weekend. There are two different interval session plans I like the look of, one is called 10 20 30 and the other is 4 x 4. They both get your heart rate up to 85-90% of maximum which improves cardiovascular function. I may do one session of each per week.
At the moment, I'm thinking my long run should be 10k but I might increase it by 1k per week. The authors of the 4 x 4 programme suggest setting a target HM pace and running at that pace as far as you can, which gets further week by week as you build fitness.
I’m definitely going to get running gloves Elles 🧤 . They do great hi-vis ones so you can be seen better too. I will also be wearing long Sleeves and long leggings soon though.
Did my 8K run today wearing my leggings & long sleeve shirt that I bought off a guy on EBay who had stopped running plus a very thin waterproof jacket. I was wet through with sweat at the end of the run which made me feel chilled on my warm down walk. I think I may need to rethink the jacket in favour of a micro fleece top, does anyone run in them as it chills down in temperature
