Hello, I graduated at the end of August and have been running for 30 minutes 3 times a week ever since- I discovered the C25k+ podcasts a couple of weeks ago and have been enjoying them but also wanting now to find another challenge and don’t know if this is it...

How do you all measure how far you’ve run? I have an iPhone....

Thanks :)

I use Strava on my iPhone. Can download it on App Store. It gives you distance and can be set to 1/2k time splits. GPS signal sometimes goes wayward but on the whole it’s quite accurate. You can pay for training plans etc but I just use the free service.

Thanks. Ok will give that a go- free sounds good👍 Does it use data usage on the phone do you know?

Hello bowlofsteam, welcome to this forum. Further to Stuart’s response, if you are using your phone for music while running you can also have verbal alerts from Strava telling you your pace every 500m . It’s really useful.

Ooo that’s good to know. Bit like C25k - I like that. Thanks.👍

You are very welcome here! I lurked on this forum for months, gathering intel and inspiration on increasing distance to 10k. 😊

Keep up the good work consolidating with your regular runs I say. It takes time to build your running legs. And when you feel ready, read up on Ju-ju’s 10k plan, if distance interests you. (You can find it under pinned posts). I loved the 10km training plan; it is very manageable.

If you need some variety in the meantime, I can recommend downloading the free Nike Run Club app. It has lots of guided runs of varying lengths to try. Oh, and Zombies, Run! app. That’s fun. 👍

Hi BoS, I also graduated in August and spent a while lurking on here too. It all looked quite daunting to begin with, people talking about their 10k, HM and even M achievements! I was still in 🐌 mode!

But as more and more familiar names popped up and my distance grew a bit longer, I snook over and now I frequent both forums!

Have fun in your quest for 10k! I’ll be on 7k next week! I use MapMyRun. I have Strava on my phone, but I haven’t used it to date. I’m a bit superstitious and I used MMR during C25K! Bonkers!

Good luck! 😀

Hi. I also use strava and find it great for keeping a record of my exercise. Have downloaded the Nike app too, although not really used yet. Happy running

Strava is fun and good at keeping you motivated, look our for the segments when you study data post run, these have been added and named by other users, such as “bridge to bench” my favourite “vomit hill “ aptly named :) you will be timed when you run into one and each time after, gives you a gold medal if you beat your time and graphs your progress happy running

Yeah Strava gives some funny names!!

This is it! Magic 10 by Ju-Ju is the best 10K training plan I've seen. It's very do-able for someone like yourself who's graduated and consolidated.

I moved to tracking in Strava near the end of C25K and it works on iPhone better than my Samsung! OH has much more accurate GPS with his.

Good luck with the next challenge, you'll do great.

Oh, and Strava has the benefit of the same social interaction and support you get in here. Indeed many my connections are from here.

All the best,

Sutsha 😁

I have used strava and Runkeeper to track exercise (both will log cycling, walking etc as well as running). Strava is good if you are competitive and want to see how you compare with locals on specific stretches as Tony said. The biggest drawback with strava is that it doesn’t give your current pace/speed, only your average over the whole run. This is why I don’t use it anymore and have migrated back to Runkeeper. I’m sure most people use the current pace feature to increase their speed but I find it most useful to reign in my speed so I can run for longer. Both apps are free, so I would download all that take your fancy and delete the ones you don’t get along with.

Zombie run is great fun, you can set it so you need to periodically outrun the zoms for some speed intervals 😁 but you will probably want to pay the subscription after the first 10 episodes as the advertising gets quite grating.
