And I've only got myself to blame!

Last week I started doing more yoga as I needed to loosen up the tightness in my hips and hamstrings. Its always been a problem for me (too much time sitting at the piano) and I was worried running was making it worse.

Went out on a club run last Friday morning and my right knee felt a bit niggly. It was a hilly route - which in Hastings is every route except the seafront ๐Ÿ˜‚ - but it wasn't fast so I put the niggle down to something I must have done in yoga.

At parkrun on Saturday my son and I were tailwalkers. Long story but we ended up a long way behind the back of the pack and had to sprint to catch up - again the knee felt a bit weird.

I run 10k with a fast group on a Wednesday morning - nearly all of them sub25 parkrunners, some sub20, but I felt perfectly OK when I set out. We were doing 4 fartlek sections during the run so after a 1500m warm up we had to run fast.

Now I love running fast - I find it really exhilarating but don't have the stamina to keep it. I love efforts and track training for this reason - you don't have to do it for more than 600-700m which with a bit of effort I can manage.

So off I went - fast! I passed everyone and ended up running next to the quickest 5k runner in the group. He said at the end of the run how he could hear someone coming up behind him but he wasn't expecting it to be me. I was absolutely knackered at the end of the section and had to stop and walk when everyone else carried on jogging but I sort of knew that would be the case so wasn't too bothered.

I couldn't manage the next fast section much faster than my normal pace but then at halfway my knee started to hurt - not excruciating but more than just a niggle. Scouts paced my way back to the start with various other lovely runners waiting for me and running back for me. By lunchtime I was having trouble getting upstairs.

I was going to do my first 10k race on Sunday but that won't be happening now โ˜น๏ธ

It has been said many times on here but I obviously I did not pay attention properly! Listen to your body - if you think somethings a bit amiss - take it easy. Don't end up on the IC by way of overenthusiasm and overexcitability.

Happy running everyone x

Oh dear poor you, and you've been doing so well. Hope it's just a rest-up for a few days that's needed. I'm a Hastings girl too, you can't avoid those hills for long can you! Wishing you a speedy recovery ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks Muttley! I'm hoping it's nothing too serious and resting will sort it out. Hastings a definitely the place to be for hills - I remember someone on here describing us as mountain goats ๐Ÿคฃ

Do you parkrun in Hastings? Just emailed to see if there's any volunteer spaces left for this week as I don't want to miss out! x

Yes I'm addicted to Park Run! I'm away this weekend so doing a Hampshire park run. I volunteered at Hastings a few weeks ago, it's great fun!

Excellent! Enjoy your parkrun tourism. Might see you down at Hastings sometime - I usually bump into Runsome down there ๐Ÿ˜

Do you have any distinguishing features?! Perhaps we should wear C25K badges! ๐Ÿ˜

Haha! Maybe a secret sign?

Next time I'm marshaling I'll PM you and let you know what station I'm on then you can give me a wave ๐Ÿ˜

Good idea! I'll do the same ๐Ÿ˜Š

Oh, no, and I hadn't seen you on here for ages, so bad luck it's because of injury. It's worth strapping that knee till it settles. i have to run with my weak injured knee strapped and have a really good lightweight elasticated knee thing that doesn't slip or make you sweat. I really hope it's better soon x

Thanks Flick sounds like a good idea. I've been lurking and replying to a few posts but nothing new to post about - until now!

Was hoping my next post would be about the 10k on Sunday but it's not to be. Still contemplating doing the half marathon in March. My Wednesday run leader thinks it would be really good for me as the training will teach me to slow down and help build stamina ๐Ÿ˜

So sorry to hear this pianoteacher, you were doing so well and that race was just around the corner.

Budge over on that couch because Iโ€™m on it too. We can buy each other grapes ๐Ÿ‡. Like you I wish I could turn the clock back and do it differently but we are where we are. Get well soon.

Oh Dexy I've just read your post - poor you โ˜น๏ธ it's sprinting that's done for me as well.

My friend who's a nurse looked at it earlier and thinks I've pulled my hamstring. Apparently more likely to be a sprinting injury rather than yoga. I love a sprint but I'll be much more careful about it once I'm off the IC.

Get well soon xx

Thanks, that felt so good too. And in future Iโ€™ll look down when on stoney ground. ๐Ÿ‘€

Do you know how long it will be for you?

Oh no! Hope itโ€™s not too serious. You might be ok by Sunday? Ibuprofen and lots of ICE!

Don't think it's serious Tasha - just comedy gold for anyone watching me try to get upstairs ๐Ÿคฃ

My nurse friend says it's a pulled hamstring and not to run for a week and then go back really gently x

Oh no what a shame , just when You were going to do your 10k on Sunday. Hope the injury goes soon and youโ€™ll be back out there with the rest of us. So you were back walking last Saturday I thought I didnโ€™t see you whizz past me at parkrun. all the best๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€

pianoteacherGraduate10 in reply to Runsome

Thanks Runsome. The sprinting during the parkrun tailwalk probably didn't help - it was funny though ๐Ÿคฃ We'd been sweeping a man who was just out for a very slow Saturday morning stroll for the first km and the actually back markers were miles ahead of us ๐Ÿ˜‚

What? he strolled only the first K then stopped or ran on ? That will be it trying to be in 2 places at the same time. Iโ€™m sorry your injured as you do volunteering regularly as well as your own running. speedy recovery ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘
