Sunny good morning to you all...

At last, I have been released into the outside world again...I have been looking forward to this day for over a week!

I decided that I would try for 2kms this morning & the flattest route is the canal towpath,, so I parked up, put my 40p in the machine & started my warm up walk, everything felt ok...after 5 mins I started gently kissing the ground & still, all felt good, runkeeper announced that I’d reached 1km, at this point I can’t say that my ankle was completely pain free, I could def feel it but it wasn’t screaming, just whispering, pulling just to remind me that this was the start of my recovery week...the whispering got louder, so I stopped & walked...admitted defeat...I turned around heading back to the car, I turned all my tech off, Strava hadn’t tecorded properly anyway so I deleted that activity....I found a wall & did some stretches, doesn’t feel too bad, I could’ve prob kept running but, still considering myself a relatively new runner, I didn’t...I carried on walking then thought I’d just give it another go...so set my tech off again & ran to the bridge nearest the car...yes it hurt, I could feel every step but it’s not going to go straight back to normal is it?? I’m sat in the car now having done a few minutes cool down walk. If it wasn’t for my ankle I feel I could’ve run forever!! I’ve no pain in it at the moment, let’s see what the rest of the day brings...a couple of days & I’ll try again...slowly & surely I will get there...

I’m not disappointed with my run, I don’t think it was a bad run, it was a test run, a recovery run...

Thankyou for all your support, encouragement & care you’ve sent me over the last week..

boy did it feel good to be back outside this morning!!

Happy running in this lovely sunshine everyone...there really is nothing like it xxx

Oh MC, you totally did the right thing there. And that’s actually what marks you out as a real runner - knowing when to be sensible and not push it. Little forays back into running like this will do you the power of good, body and spirit. A little more rest will and you will be sorted - do you have physio exercises to do? Am rooting for you my lovely. 👍 xxx

Thanks Sadie-runs , this is my plan...10 mins every couple of days...swimming, Pilates & bike on the other days and I’ll soon be back on track xx

Glad you got out and tested yourself, I really hope you can continue your recovery, was thinking of you as I huffed and puffed up and down the beach front this morning

Thanks Berksrover , hope you’re enjoying Tenerife? Running on the beach will be building those calf muscles up nicely! Glad I joined you briefly on your run! 😉

Lol, no sand running, just up and down the promenade, the hills here always turn my calves into cannonballs

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toBerksrover

Sounds perfect?! Cannonball calves, woo, bet you can’t half boot a football?! 😂💪🏻

Gently does it. Don't push too hard too quickly. 5 - 10 mins might be all you needed on first run

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toRichard7

Actually Richard7 ...you’ve made a good point there, instead of aiming for a distance I ought to just run with a certain amount of time in mind instead?! D’oh, never thought of that!! I was limping slightly for a bit afterwards but it’s feeling ok now 👍🏼

A nice gentle test run MummyCav...are you still reporting back to Emma your sports physio friend?

Your patience will be rewarded, rest days and strenghening exercises, and listening out for any stress.

Have a lovely day and remember time heals....😊xxx

Hi Jan, yes it was gentle, I was very careful, which made me slow my pace right down, shame coz I could’ve run forever this morning, it was beautiful out there. Yes, Emma has text me over the weekend seeing how I’m doing & I will let her know how it’s been today after my run. Strengthening exercises are the best thing ever, I am proving to be more patient than I thought I could be at the moment!! xx

Thanks Dexy5 , I hope so 💪🏻🏃🏼‍♀️😉

You were wise to stop, but i bet if you keep doing mini runs, it will gradually strengthen.

And canal path??? Hoping for beefcake again????? ;) xx

That’s my plan Hidden , short runs for this week, strengthening exercises in between. Oooooo, I could’ve done with a beefcake this morning although I’d probably have straightened myself up that much I’d have pulled summet else!! 😂😂 xx

Very sensible plan MC. Slow and steady.... and short runs will be the name of the game for now. Nice to have you back running with us though

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toSaskAlliecat

Thanks Sask, I’ve missed it!! I slowed my pace right down & kind of experimented with my landings to see if it made a difference, you’re right, short runs are def the way forward x

Glad you managed to get out to test your ankle. Sounds like things are looking positive as you managed a run! Very wise to not run through more pain. I’m sure that will really help your recovery.

Good luck and keep us posted. X

Mummycav profile image

Thanks Ripcurlrana71 ...I prob could’ve run through & got used to the pain but I thought better of it, it’s killed me not running last week so another week would be torture!! x

That wonderful feeling of getting back to running after enforced rest almost makes injury worth it ... but only almost! Great that you are listening to your foot closely. Hope it continues to make good progress and that you'll soon be flying along without giving it a second thought 🙂

Thank you so much...haha yes, almost!! Ahhhhhh, I look forward to the day when I can just run without listening to anything but my music!! xx

I think I've missed something Mummycav because I thought you had Achilles problems or is it all coming from your ankle? I know you're getting treatment but have you thought about wearing an ankle support on a run? When my ankle got iffy I wore a support for a little while and it really helped.

Mummycav profile image
MummycavAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toIrishprincess

no, you’ve haven’t missed anything, my sports physio friend said it’s over-worked muscles down the sides of my Achilles...funnily enough, I have bought an ankle support today...and some gel thingys to put in my trainers, anything will help!! Thanks Irishprincess x
