After my fantastic cliff side run on Thursday today was a bit of a series of calamities! 😵
Firstly I got dressed and set out to the car for Parkrun. Thinking, I need a coffee right now. I decide I have time and go to make it in my travel cup. Set out again. Ooh 😮 is that rain? ☔️ 🌧! Back in to get rainmac! Don’t think I’ll use it until after the run. In the car 🚘....ooh is that the time? Well..... they usually have a warm up chat. Should be ok. 🤓! Ooops.....have I got my headphones? Nope...back in for the headphones and double smart 🤓🤓 that I am, I grab the spare too. It’s a 6k today and I’m not waiting to see how much power I have, one of them will be ok!
Saturday shoppers in their cars “you don’t quite understand I’m heading for my run and already late”! 😂. Driving to the park, I know I’ll need a plan B! Parkrun is not going to happen. I relax, breath and decide I’ll just do my own totally fabulous run! There.....👊🏽...it’s settled! Calm and in control! (Oooh I’ve just seen Equi-geek get into her car to head home! Little did she know I was around....and around...and around!! 🤣🤣! 🗣🔊 “I hope you had a great run Equi”! She’s wearing pink again today. Suits her 😁).
Anyway, at the Park and it’s time to run my way. I head out and turn on the headphones. This one is half charged and I think 6k? It’s not enough. So I go back to the car for the second pair. Stupid...doh, don’t turn it on there..oh no, that’s too sensible for me today! 🤦🏽♀️ It’s not got any charge. “Give up” is buzzing in one ear and “Not on your life” in the other! Back to the car! Half charge is better than none. 😉 Finally running and I get to what I now know was 1.85k and then guess what...the phone charge goes!! Oh my Lord!! 🔨 🔨 🔨 This just isn’t meant to be today. So resisting a stroppy sudden stop and expletives, I decide to stay calm (AGAIN) and just head back the same way to the car. No idea of pace, no idea of distance and then it dawns on me, (as I just accept my 6k won’t happen today 🤷🏽♀️) that I promised myself that I wouldn’t make running about pace and distance, but about enjoyment and loving what I can do. And like magic, I just let go of the calamity of it all and enjoy the run back in the rain. A lovely man walking his dog shouts to me as I’m getting close “You’re doing well”! Bless that man 😍 I tell him “I’m trying”, he said “Well, you’re doing better than me”! Now if it was appropriate, I’d blow him kisses! But he might run off!😂.... instead I say “Thank you”! with a big smile. Pensioners and dogs seem to be my thing!! 😂 This one gets 5 stars though!! 🤩 He has made my day!! I’m still a happy runner!! 6k another day! Now time to do MY shopping! 😁
Happy running Runners! ❤️

Hi Fabulous! Sorry I missed seeing you today - most people couldn't miss me in my hi-viz pink again!😆 Testing out my kit in advance of the Great South. The start of your run sounds like the week I just had - I completely empathise! I'm so pleased you not only got a great run in but it was acknowledged by that lovely chap too. It was a good morning for a run - the weather was perfect wasn't it?! Hope the next run has fewer tech problem 😙
Hey..guess what? Just got a message from headspace that said “Try to exercise today without your phone. Focusing instead on the physical sensations in your body”! 🤣 Well.. you’re too late Andy, I’ve already done that about 6 hours ago!!! 😉❤️
Oh you do make me laugh! You may have not got your planned 6k in but look at that persistence! So good in a time of crisis to remember the need to run for joy. You are a winner. 😁👏😁👏 xxx
Wonderful - l love the cheering comment & chuckled sympathetically at the faffage! 😀It reminded me of trying to get the family out for a picnic many years ago. .. Do we have sunscreen?? The sandwiches?? Spare clothes for when they fall in a stream/the sea .. especially the last one! 😂
Ah thanks Elfe! Oh, I’ve got the faff bit to a fine art!! Some days it’s just a bit OTT! 🤣 I tell myself I’m “getting organised” at the time though! 😉 I’m sure you had everything in the end too! 😂❤️
I like your positive attitude. Now will you get out of the way shopping errand person, don't you know I'm trying to drive past you to go on a run 😉. Actually I decided to have today doing jobs and try and catch up with the local Jolly Joggers tomorrow morning. Maybe even if it's raining (but that's not a given). Well done you on a joyous jog 👍
Ah thanks so much Baddie!! I have had lots to do today anyway. Maybe a blessing in a very good disguise! I did have my own personal cheerleader today too, which was great timing. If I didn’t have to turn back, we would not have met. 😍 That put a spring in my step without any music or coaching! 🎧. Don’t worry, I’ll keep to the side now, so that my organised VRBs can do your thing in peace today! 🤣🤣❤️
What can I say Fabulous? What you need is a to do list for the night before. Glad you had a great run anyway. There is a pensioner who sits in the same spot every Saturday on the prom to watch us parkrunners and those of us who are observant say Good Morning to him as we run by. I look out for him every Saturday.
Lol Dexy.... I had all my gear set out from last night. 😂 I got home really late yesterday evening and was thinking run day tomorrow. Was so looking forward to it. I think I was still half asleep when I went out this morning! Hence turning back for that coffee. But never mind. I gave the challenge what for, as best as I could! 🤣❤️
I loved this post! I love what you say about running, for you, not being "about pace and distance, but about enjoyment and loving what I can do." That's exactly what I feel! When I'm running in the park run, with *hundreds* of runners in front of me and three or four walkers behind me, I feel totally free, my feet are flying, I constantly want to laugh with delight at having discovered a new capability at the age of 55. I know I am slower than almost everybody but I am moving faster than I have ever moved (without wheels) and it feels like magic! Also, I am really proud of my stamina, hoiking my fat arse around that course without stopping - it's the most empowering feeling. Thanks for the great post xxxx
You’ve hit the nail on the head Languid! It’s that feeling of freedom. We don’t care about the imperfections.. we just know that “This girl can run!! “Out there, don’t care”! 🏃🏾♀️ 👊🏽🤩❤️
I had something similar the other week. First wireless earphones died swiftly followed by phone 5 mins into run!! Was gutted at not having any stats and I’ve not quite mastered the art of not letting the running gods wind me up yet. Even this morning when the zipper stuck on my pocket and I couldn’t get my phone out of my pocket in time to start recording the run (done Stepping Stones and like to record run only, not warm-up walk) I was chundering away to myself in my head cursing them damn running gods again, 🤣🤣🤣. I shouldn’t complain too much because I ran my best average pace this morning after all that faffing in the end.
It’s good to know we’ll all the same and all have these little calamities to test us along the way 😃
😁😁😁 that’s it Jan!! All the caffuffle makes you realise you’re a runner too! Otherwise we’d not be bothered one bit! I could sense the battle before I left the house! My mind was way too foggy, but run done. And you have had the added bonus of a great run straight after! Hopefully I’ll follow suit!! Good on you!! 😍❤️😁
My app failed today for the first time at the Park run in Marlborough. So had no idea of pace or distance while I was running. I actually loved it! Just my music!
Ooh not a bad place for it to fail Ang!! Glad you enjoyed it!! I survived quite well without it too!! And no music! 😁 That’s another first! They just keep on coming! Whether I like it or not! Oh the adventures! 😂😁❤️
Aah thanks David!! I just think there’s little point in letting it get me down. I’m running....me!! How did that happen? 😯 That’s always a good reason to stay upbeat and celebrate!! Fighting with my failings just to run is quite something! 🤣 ❤️
...😀I think the word is "faffage"(!) - spending far too much time getting ready for the "perfect" run when the "perfect run" is often the one we least prepare for! Well done for remembering not to let go of the "love"! ❤️🏃🏽♀️
Thanks Sandra!! 😁 I was conscious of feeling tired and so I got everything ready last night before going to bed (or so I thought!😂). Not the best plan!!❤️
Thank you SA!! Asking yourself “What is this about”? during a run is a good thing. Even if you’re in a strop 😂! The answer is sometimes simpler than you think. And very calming! 😁❤️
