Ey up everyone...I’M BACK!! Better get t’kettle on....Lordy, what a mad few days, I’m not leaving it till the last minute coming home before the start of term!!!....I thought I was so organised ordering uniform’s etc online...’only a shoe shop to do when I get back’ I thought, smugly, as I ascended the Eiffel Tower last Thursday....after a packing up day Saturday, a lovely ‘last meal’ out...few drinks then early to bed ready for the early start, homeward bound on Sunday morning....I didn’t feel 100% to be honest...might have picked up a bug in a queue somewhere...prob Disneyland earlier in the week...the drive home through the UK, as usual, was a slog....setting off from Paris at 9am & eventually pulling into the drive at 6:30pm...only stop was the tunnel...my kids are fabulous travellers, honestly how many siblings can sit next to each other for hours on end without a cross word?? I know I wouldn’t have been able to!!! Dush...ouch..dush...ouch..aaaarrrgh...would’ve have been the noises coming from the back seat in our car as we knocked 10 bells out of each other!!!
Anyway, non of the uniforms jumpers fit so it was a trip to the uniform shop, joining the queue out of the door of irrate parents who have really left it till the last minute!! Sigh...then off to Clark’s...I’m not trailing, only one shop will do!!
By Monday evening, the feelings of ‘not well’ had developed unbelievably into a full blown cold, I only get cold in October & if I don’t get one then, I don’t get one at all!!! But I wasn’t well at all...my planned ‘No place like home’ run wasn’t happening...thinking I might feel a bit better Tues, I postponed it until then...my feelings of guilt growing by the hour..I have only run twice in the last two weeks, my body is going to forget what to do...& the plan, what about Ju-ju’s plan?? Yes, I’ve run 9k but that was about 3 weeks ago!!! I was so worried.
Didn’t feel much better on Tues morning so after dropping two of the kids off, instead of going for my run, I went home...& made the most of my day with my youngest...Wed morning, that’s my time, I’m doing this...so, I got my kit on, did the school run, got home...& made the BIG mistake of going inside....bearing in mind we have 5 weeks of holiday stuff just ‘unloaded’ into the house...I started..unpacking...so, again my run was off.
Last night though, having kept my shorts & vest top on all day in anticipation of a snatched run, it happened....I fed everyone (except myself) & I was off....I walked the dog round the block as part of my warm up, dropped him off & started on my way...ohhhhhh, the familiarity of the streets was so satisfying....I had a real spring in my step...I couldn’t wait to get to the canal...i thought I’d ease myself back into it so I’ll do a few short runs for what’s left of this week then I’m going to pick up where I left off on the 10k plan next week, so I aimed for a short 3k...I was enjoying myself so I did an extra one, not fast as I was enjoying taking in the familiar sights & seeing if there was anything new...I sometimes find the first 2-3k hard & last night was no exception, but that was prob due to my cold & lack of sleep....I love Yorkshire...there really is no place like Home....
So, as my tan fades along with the Summer, I’m looking forward to another Autumn of running, watching the trees change, making the most of the outdoors, beautiful skies, crispy leaves & beautiful skies...I am still amazed at myself for even putting one foot out of the door when it’s cold without good reason...well, running is a good reason...
Happy Autumn running everyone...Oi...Oi...have you fallen asleep??!! Anyone...?? Is anyone still there??....

Ah you're back, well done on the travelling and to your children for being well behaved, bless them. I know the feeling of a cold starting, I'm in the middle of one now, chest hurting from all the coughing.
You finally made your run, so that's got to be a positive move, well done. Plus yes, it's always good to be home. Mad rush for the school stuff, but you did it 👍 xxx
Oh no quirkybee ...I’d make you a bed on the sofa & chicken soup with toast if I lived nearer 😍 ...hope it does one soon. Thanks you...I like living in the edge haha xxx 😂
Thank you Bluebirdrunner , I’ve had a great time, never a dull moment!! I don’t think I could get straight back into it but I want to see that badge next to my name before the end of the month!! That will def make for happy Autumn running x
Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the cold; we've got quite a few at work battling that as well and I'm practicing mind over matter to avoid getting it myself before my race next week 🤞. Enjoy your home autumn runs. It really is a nice time to run 🍁☀️
Thanks sask...I loved my Autumn runs last year, some of them frustrating but that wasn’t to do with the weather!!! Can’t believe it’s coming up to a year ago since I graduated!!
Phew..makes me breathless thinking about the last few days!!! Thank you Tbae ...I hardly get colds but there must’ve been someone with lurgy near me...I might look into the vaccine thing though x
I fell in love with the Highlands as a student, Tbae. Spent all my holidays and spare weekends up there in my 20s, and finished the Munros at age 28. Many happy memories...😊❤️
Haha...no complex muscle memory...just putting one foot in front of the other and repeating lots (like running!😂)
Omigods that made me laugh. What a hilarious and amazing post. Phew. So good to see you back, and I really hope you’ve beaten the dreaded cold into submission. Xxx
Haha thanks Hidden ...makes me shattered too!! Thought everyone would just fall asleep after the first few lines?! My cold has just about done one thank god...I’m never poorly, I haven’t got time!! I’m not having lurgy interfering with my running!!! Looking forward to getting back to normal xx
Never fall asleep in one of your posts MC, too much going on normally! No exception here, what a wonderful time you've all had, should keep you going well into the depths of winter. Just you wait 'til you smell that autumn air on a cool sunny morning run. I hope I'm back in the game by then, I just love that time of year. Minus dog poo nestling under autumn leaves though!! xx
💪🏽! I know the feeling! I found my stint didn’t last too long after I got a cold/flu unexpectedly. I very rarely get it too. It’s been years, but I kind of let it know, if it thinks it’s interfering with my running.......think on!! 🤨😉!
Thanks for the laugh Mummycav, ah! brought back memories of my first long trip in car with OH and his two children many years ago, I swear the car was rocking from side to side and I thought “what the?” and said similar.
Hope you feel better soon, the B210 will wait for you.
Haha...all I could see was my Dad’s eyes glaring at us through the rear view mirror! It must’ve been a flippin long drive for him & my Mum who just kept feeding us Yorkshire mixture sweets & jelly babies to keep us quiet but they were probably fuelling the situation with the amount of sugar in them!
Did you dare tell OH’s children off?! It must’ve been like having monkeys in the backseat?! 🐒🙊
Oh gawd no! not at first (made up for it later) but when I glanced in the sun visor make up mirror at my daughter (only child) who was sitting between them, her eyes were white and wide I had to step up. It was a Ford Cortina, really loved Ford Capris, like wot they had in Minder, but we couldn’t have fitted our lovelies in a 2 door.
