Runniversary.....when do you count from?

No idea why this just struck me, but I always assumed your runniversary would be the date that you graduated c25k. Or should it be the date you started? What do you all think?

The day we started that's when the challenge began.💪

Oh dear, I have no idea when that was!

I would celebrate my 'runaversary😊🏃' a year after my graduation run rather than the first time I ran W1R1, but if you would rather celebrate the day that you ran week 1 run 1 but don't remember that date. I am sure you will remember your graduation date you can work back 9 weeks for your first run.

icklegui profile image
icklegui in reply to AlMorr

only if it took you 9 weeks...!! Many of us took longer :)

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to icklegui

I am fully aware of that Icklegul, that does make it more difficult to remember the exact date that your first run was, in that case, I would recommend that your (run) anniversary run is your graduation one.

in reply to MikeJones68

If you used the app it saves the date in each run. Assuming you haven't deleted the app!!

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to

Or changed your phone, like I did. D'oh!

in reply to MikeJones68

I updated my bio so I had a record somewhere in the cloud!

Good thinking!

If you used to get inspired app you can click on that run and it’ll tell you the date 👌🏽

I counted it (roughly) from the day I started the programme, as that is when I first run! However, like you, I only had a rough idea of when I started, so I had a "Runniversary Week". Yes, a full week of celebration. :-) And why not, eh?

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to Sadie-runs

Sounds good to me! I think I'll have to go for a month though, as all I know is that it was November last year!

Sarakc profile image
SarakcGraduate10

I wondered the same thing! I started the programme in September last year but don’t know exact date!! I graduated on 3rd December as I have it written on my old calendar!! 😀

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Sarakc

Just look back 9 weeks from your graduation date and that will be the day you ran W1R1. For me W1R1 was April 18, my graduation run was exactly 9 weeks later on June 18

Sarakc profile image
SarakcGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I’ve looked at my old calendar again and it’s full of little squiggles but goodness knows what they mean!! I had a week off in October when I went on holiday and I remember worrying about missing a week!! I’ll just say I’ve been running a year from September!! 😀

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Graduate10 in reply to Sarakc

Click on the first run on the app and it tells you when you did it

Sarakc profile image
SarakcGraduate10 in reply to Tasha99

Thank you! It was 26 th September!!! 😀

Unfortunately it's more complicated than that for me. Having played badminton for a few years I decided, probably unwisely, to start c25k at week 4. It went fairly well until week 9 run 2 when something went twang in my calf just 30 seconds into the run. It took weeks to heal and I think it was another 3 weeks before I graduated...........Hmmm, I suppose that cancels out starting at week 4!

I went from Graduation Day as I knew when that was and that felt like THE START of being a runner :)

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to

Yeah, I think I’m going to go with that. I certainly wouldn’t count my early c25k staggering around as running LOL

UpTheStanley profile image
UpTheStanleyGraduate10

How about the day you spent serious money on a proper pair of running shoes and ditched the tatty trainers? You might be able to find the date from your credit card records :-)

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to UpTheStanley

Errrrm, I did c25k and my first 300km afterwards in a pair of £20 Fila trainers from Cost-Co. I replaced those with a £45 pair of Nike Downshifter 8's from Sports Direct about 150km ago.

Hi Mike , I think it should be from the time you first started from the couch because every run, no matter how short should count.

I haven’t got a clue when that is for me because my journey was interrupted by skiing and I didn’t join the forum until quite late on. So nothing written down. Maybe I should just go back 9 weeks from graduation .

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to Dexy5

I think I'm going to have to look back through the app history. I know I changed my phone halfway through, but I should be able to figure it out........

I too take it from the day of my very first run. Literally when I first did my shiny new shoes up and took my first running steps. I didn't really graduate so this is my only distinct date to choose! Luckily my running diary tells me exactly when that was (18th August), how I felt (awful and self conscious), is illustrated with before, during and after photos (not pictured) and also spells out how determined I was to fulfil my promise to run the GNR (happening this Sunday coming) 😁

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to Sqkr

Good luck at the great north run Sqkr. And enjoy those people cheering you all the way round. 🏃‍♀️👏

Good luck with the GNR! I haven't done any races yet, not even a Park Run!

Have you got one close by Mike? Parkrun is great fun and I have been most weeks since graduation. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️🐕🚶‍♂️🐩🚶‍♀️🐌🐢

There are 2 in Bedford, and the nearest is only about a 15 minute drive for me. My problem is hauling my tired backside out of bed to get there for 9am on a weekend!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to MikeJones68

Yes that was my first obstacle, but you feel quite energised after doing it.

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate10

I have always done it from when I graduated, but then its perfectly feasible to do it from when your bum came off the couch. Alternatively be like the Queen and have 2.

Oh I like that idea..:)

May I have bubbly on both occasions... :) It will be my runniversary number 1 middle of October ..Then my Graduation one.. the week before Christmas..I like it.. :) xxx

I say celebrate them all! ... and be proud of each and every achievement, you've worked hard for it.

I know the date I started C25k, the date I graduated, my first 5k, my first Parkrun and my first 10k ... and if I ever do 5k in less than 30mins the whole country will hear me celebrate!!

I count from W1R1 and for the whole of my first year I took a post run selfie after every run. The transformation in just one year is amazing to me and something I'm so proud of! Keeps me motivated on the tough days. (Still purple and sweaty though - lol!)

Berksrover profile image
BerksroverGraduate10 in reply to Sweatyfaced

Wish I had done something similar, brought it home to me tonight, my work trousers that I was bursting out of 5 months ago are literally dropping off me without a belt that is now about 3 holes tighter than when I started

And what away to celebrate. My 50th is coming up next month so I need to think of what kind of run I can do to celebrate.........

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to MikeJones68

You have started a runstreak Mike😄...but how about doing a run in your full alter ego outfit for your 50th!😉

MikeJones68 profile image

Aha, yes! Cape flowing in the wind :)

This runstreak may not last much past today. My legs were seriously stiff this morning!

Fabulous450 profile image
Fabulous450Graduate10 in reply to MikeJones68

Oh I would choose somewhere with beautiful views so that you celebrate your 50th year in style, as a fit runner!! Best wishes for a great day when it comes!! ❤️

First day of c25k. I know when that was as I have a record of every run on Garmin connect.

MikeJones68 profile image
MikeJones68Graduate10 in reply to

Mine was all recorded on my phone, which I changed since starting :(

in reply to MikeJones68

that's a shame. i've changed from Android to iOS so I doubt if the c25k app will have a record of my runs either. good thing I had the watch by then.

Yep, it’s the date of starting C25k for me - 15th April. Like Steve, I also know the key dates since then (mainly as I started using Strava part way through C25k, so the runs are all on there) - graduated 7 weeks later, now up to 14k and started HM plan (HM booked for March), dropped a stone since then, etc etc. All good 😊

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10

I like the idea of two runniversaries😊 started with the podcasts in April and Graduated in November!

I think there is a way to get the actual date up on your Graduation post rather than just three years ago, but I can't remember how!😆😄...

icklegui profile image
icklegui in reply to Bluebirdrunner

You just hover the mouse - on a browser on a computer - over the "three years ago" bit and it comes up. I don't know if it works on a phone!

Didn't seem to icklegui..thanks I will take a look later. 😊x

edit* found it and my Graduation date is 9th November :)

My runniversary is going to be from the day I first started by accident because it was a bank holiday and I didn't have to go to work. That's when the adventure started.

Starting from week 1 run 1. Hope to get to HM by my first runniversary 😂

Yes, I think I am going to follow suit. I can't actually remember exactly when I started (towards the end of October 2017), but I have my graduation certificate in the office: 4th January 2018 :)
