Week 2... ish. Hips. Pain. Physio. Gait Analysis. NEW SHOES!

Did a 3k run this morning for week 2 run 1. I’ve had a ten day gap in running after my previous post about finding it difficult running on harder surfaces (I learnt to run on a sandy beach) and continuing pain in my left hip. Had a second appointment with a (different) physio a couple of days ago. He looked at me walking and suggested that, as a naturally worried person, I’m holding tension in my hips and need to loosen up my walk. So now I’m overanalysing as I move around and trying to walk like John Wayne.

Today, on my run, I was also trying to run in a more ‘hippy’ way and think it felt better but need to do more reading on form. Found this article which looks interesting runnersworld.com/advanced/a...

I have now just come back from the running shop. I had gait analysis as suggested by the good people of this forum. Apparently my run is okay but it’s just possible my left leg is sweeping round a bit and is a bit longer than the right leg! I also followed the suggestions to get new running shoes. In fact, I got two pairs! (There was a sale on.) Apparently, my current shoes aren’t proper running shoes but just trainers! They might have been okay to start with but the new ones feel a lot better.

So I’m hoping some combination of these measures will sort out my hip and I’ll carry on toward 10k. Cheers!

I suspect and hope the shoes will be more significant than the gait issues- I am a bit cynical on that front but have no doubt you need proper running shoes.

All the best

Lovely shoes jimmers. Good running shoes absorb your weight better so I hope this helps your aches and pains. 🏃‍♂️👟

Maybe stick to one pair and if you don’t love them, you can return the 2nd pair and try another brand.

Glad you are on the mend. That’s a really great article - thanks for sharing it - I have arthritis in my hip and running has made me aware of how weak my hamstrings and calf muscles were but also my posture is terrible. So I’d been trying ‘running tall’ but wasn’t quite enough. I think I’ll try those tests and exercises as I’m sure they’ll help with everything 😁👍🤗

Ooh, TWO pairs! I approve (says the woman with four pairs of running shoes!).
