I got magnesium spray and used it on my knees and it seemed to have helped a lot. However I am wondering if there are any side effects that I should be aware of... any experience in our group on using magnesium oil spray? Please share.

I have used magnesium oil spray on my legs before with no problems. I had heard it was good for sore muscles and I was getting sore muscles a lot when doing C25K! I had also read that most people are magnesium deficient these days (due to there being less of this mineral in our over-farmed soil). For me, the jury’s out on whether it helped or not, but I felt good using it. Stick to the dosage on the instructions and you shouldn’t see any side effects - I never did.

I’m no expert, but like Sadie I’ve heard many people are Magnesium deficient in modern diets, and that this can contribute to muscle aches/ cramps/ spasm problems etc.
As my back likes locking in spasm, I’ve tried taking pretty high doses of Magnesium in tablet form in the past, and never had ill effects (though I wasn’t sure it helped my spasm problems). I’d also heard that one of the best ways to absorb Magnesium was through the skin (people soak in baths with salts for that, which I think has been done for ages). So if you stick to the directions on the spray then I’d be surprised if you get issues...

There's some scientific thought on it here ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...
My immediate thinking would be, ok dermal application may be better than oral but it it targetted? ie why would spraying it on your knees have any effect to that specific area, surely it just gets absorbed dermally and then works it's way around your whole system?
I can't offer any advice on side effects, but have to agree with the benefits in general as I love a magnesium salt bath. I accidentally bought a massive 25kg of them recently thinking about value for money rather than practicality (such a huge box!), so I have an epsom salt bath after a long run without fail. Oo I sleep so well afterwards.

Me too! Epsom salts, hot bath. Sheer joy. Cuppa tea even better. I was reading in women’s running mag recently about our best female ultra runners, and one of those ladies says she always has one I get mine from the horse supplies shop in a huge bucket. Cheap as chips 👍😃
I first heard of it where I used to work where they used it to treat cuts.
