You may recall I had to split week 3 of JuJu's plan due to a trip up north to do some Lake District walking and watch Stanley's first game of the season (enough said about that ). So having done a local Parkrun and 3.5k of fartleking before the trip, another Parkrun in Accy before the game and the 7k long run seemed as though it would make up the week within the rules, if there were any rules.
Dexy5 has described the Hyndburn Parkrun, especially the hills, in some detail . Suffice it to say that I was very happy to bring it home in 27'27", 30 secs per k down on my target pace for the home (pancake flat) run.
Then it was back on the pancake (but windy) prom on Wednesday for the long one. The plan was to do the first K with Dexy, then aim to step up to somewhere near Parkrun pace for a while, find her again for another quiet K, then finish with another quicker spell. Started as planned except the first K was quicker than expected, at 6'50" (she will keep going faster). The first quick K was 4'55", the next 2 (mostly into wind) 5'10" and 5'12". I caught up with Dexy just into my 5th K (her 4th), but she declared a walk phase and cast me loose again before the 5k mark. So I had less of a relax than planned, with the 5th K taking 5’49” downwind. The 6th K was into wind in 5’26” and the last one a pleasing 4’55”, 500m in 2’38” upwind followed by 2’17” downwind to the finish.
So 38’16” overall at an average pace of 5’28” per k. Have to be happy with that . Week 4 starts with a home Parkrun on Saturday – will my time start to improve I wonder?
