5k this morning - just under 40 minutes which is an improvement. Used my new birthday present, a beautiful Garmin 35. I’ve never had any kind of fitness tech before and I’m wearing it all day with pride. I love this watch. I don’t understand it, but I love it.

I love Garmo, he's such a stroppy thing and yesterday he willfully put my vo2max down for no discernable reason, but it's nice to have a wee pal out with you on a run 😊 Also, I feel totally professional wearing him. A nice French man stopped me as I walked home after a run a couple of weeks ago. He gestured at my garmin, tapped his own (fancier) one and said 'ah! You are a runner too! How far is it round the park?' and I barely heard his question because I was just so pleased he'd called me a runner. 😂

Mine went down too, I think you need to do enough fast totally out of breath running to keep it happy. Despite doing huge amounts of km last week it also said my training was unproductive.. sometimes you can't win with garmo :(

It's just a nonsense estimate when it goes down, but definitely hardcore science when it goes up 😉

It still says i am as fit as a fit 20 yr old, so I can forgive it it's foibles :)

They ARE stroppy. Mine is called Ming the Merciless. And they like teasing you with VO2 Max. Though I can see how mine reflects my fitness level. If I have a bad nights sleep or feel under par, down it goes. Mine hasn’t been attracting Frenchmen for me though. I shall have to have words with him about that 😡

I’m getting more impressed the more I find out about it - perhaps the supply of a Frenchman is just something you haven’t discovered yet! 😂😂

in reply to sarah65

I did get a load of friend requests on FB at one time, showing photos of young Frenchmen with six packs lounging on couches ... though i did suspect they might actually be from obese middle aged men slobbed out at their computer terminal, wearing string vests, swigging flat lager and eating day old pizza out of takeaway boxes.

Lovely story 😊

I think I need to investigate what a vo2max means. I’m happy it tells the time and tells me I’ve done 5k !

in reply to sarah65

It's a measure of your blood oxygenation, which in turn is a measure of your heart's efficiency and your overall fitness. Done properly, you wear and oxygen mask and run on a treadmill with electrodes strapped to your chest, till you reach the point of exhaustion. VO2 Max on running watches and fitness trackers isn't that accurate, but it' a very good measure of how fit you are at a given moment. If I'm tired and the run is a struggle, mine goes down.

Well done for enjoying your 5K - I also love my garmin, even when it takes ages to get a gps signal and irritates me!

😂 I usually start with a 5 min walk and it had found signal by the time I was ready to run thankfully

Hi Sarah, the more you play with it , the better it gets. I’ve been on hols in the Lake District and used it for hill walking. It’s amazing the info it comes up with. Have you downloaded Garmin Connect onto your phone and pc yet? You can then sync at the end of each activity. You can also go on the Garmin website and download the manual, which is more detailed than the one in the box. Have fun!
