Hello my running family....phew, after travelling for what seemed like an eternity last Friday...(the delays on the Euro tunnel were horrendous...if I’d have seen a news reporter while I was queueing I’d have given you all a shout out...!!) I have arrived in the Dordogne...and it’s beautiful...and hot..the temperature is to reach 38/40 degrees by Friday!!! (My birthday). Anyway, it’s been full on, coming back here for the fifth time we have a lot of catching up to do, welcome bbq which involves lots of food & drink...it’s all about food & drink in france!!! Well, it’s about running now too...if I’d have forgotten to pack my flip flops I wouldn’t have given a toss but if I’d forgotten my trainers well, DaddyCav’s life wouldn’t have been worth living!!! Haha...but I didn’t, they were the first thing I put in my bag, along with my running gear...I am dedicated to this running lark there is no doubt about that...
So weekend out of the way...& Monday being far too hot, this morning I knew it was to be cloudy so, I was up & off just before sunrise....my first ever tourist run. My plan was to do a short 3-5k to get a feel for running somewhere different, but my head & my legs were in total disagreement & I completed week 5 of ju-ju- ’s plan with a very lovely, very peaceful 8k...much easier than the last one..i have seen this place with runners eyes this morning & it’s even more beautiful than it was before...I will carry on the programme to the end & I know I will enjoy it because I’m in one of my favourite parts of the world so what’s not to love?? I am feeling completely blessed today xxx
Brilliant news MC! I am well jell!! Currently on hols too with v iffy signal but reading this has made me smile from ear to ear! 8k in that heat!! Enjoy your French running- oh la la! Xx
Well done and gorgeous place for a run. I'm off to France at the weekend and planning to do 7.5km but I'm nervous about the heat. Early morning is the only option I think as It's still warm in the evenings. Enjoy the days with the runs finished. And do try to get to a Decathlon!
Thanks Hidden ...where abouts are you going?? Definitely early mornings for running over here...before 7am if poss...the evenings aren’t cooling down much at all, and it’s to get up to 35/40 degrees by the weekend...happy tourist running. Thanks for the heads up on Decathlon 😉
I'm going to the Nantes area and I do love to haunt Decathlon when I'm in France. My partner will not be overly impressed at my getting up before 7 on holidays. I may just have to sneak away....
Have you had your run today yet? I'm just back. It was a bit of a disaster. It was really hilly with tree branches and i got lost loads of time. I was the slowest I've ever been but i did it. Hope you got some nice birthday goodies?
No, not running today due to birthday shanannagins yesterday so my planned run will have to be in the morning, it’s too late & too warm now 🙄.
At least you did it, now you can enjoy the rest of the day & a rest day tomorrow....stamina in the bag & al that 🏃🏻♂️💪🏻
I got loads of birthday goodies, I’m going to treat myself when I get home too, my hubby has organised a trip in a hot air balloon & im a bit scared!! 🤔
Ooh I love running tourism and exploring new places away. That sounds and looks gorgeous, well done on the 8K.
I'm so paranoid about something happening to my luggage when travelling (never mind clean knickers, it's the running shoes I worry about 🙄) that I now carry my shoes in my hand luggage!
Have a fab holiday and a big happy birthday for Friday but I'm sure you'll squeeze in another run before then 🙂
Aswww, I love that, carrying your trainers in your hand luggage!! They are precious cargo though, as we all know!! You can always buy new knickers or go commando!!?!
I’m going to squeeze a pre-birthday run in tomorrow, don’t want to ruin my next run because of birthday shannigins...then I might have an extra rest day to recover....& I don’t mean from the run!! Thank you for my birthday wishes xx
That looks lovely, mind the heat though! I will be doing some running tourism myself this weekend, in lovely Cumbria! My temperatures will be a bit cooler than yours. Not sure that I could run in the Dordogne 😄
We’ve just arrived in Grasmere for a few days Joy, but won’t be running as hiking boots will replace running shoes . I don’t care that we’ve left the sun in the south, it’s so great to be back in the Lakes. Parkrun in Lancashire on Saturday. 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️
ooooo, beautiful Cumbria, lovely running there I suspect? We all know now after this years heatwave that choosing the right time of day, preferably early mornings, is essential for a successful run....I’ll just have to lay off the wine & cheese the night before a planned run! 😝....life’s hard....😉
MC! This is such an uplifting post! And all the way from sunny France, too. What a beautiful run you had – an early morning run in a beautiful place is a joyful experience. Well done on your 2nd 8k run! 9km next, and you will nail that too my lovely. I am so happy to see you progressing like this, you are doing such an amazing job!
Enjoy your holiday, and have a very, very happy birthday! Merci and au revoir and all that. xxx
Thanks Sadie-runs , it was a great run, very enjoyable...a bit hairy on the corners, 130kph (80mph) on these rural roads that I’m running on & obvs they don’t stick to that speed, their little renaults & fiats fly round on two wheels!! A white van whooshed passed me & almost blew my hat off!! Lunatic! I’m looking forward to ending the programme over here though, will be further south by then so still early morning running....thank you for my birthday wishes....au revoir for now mon Chéri xx
You’d be right on the answer too Elfe5 ! There’s no choice but to run at dawn here, it’s soooooo hot. Still 30 degrees at 5 + 6 o’clock in the evening. Thank you for my birthday wishes xx
What a lovely post and a lovely run. I really enjoy watching everyone's relive. Enjoy your holiday, your birthday and your running tourism. Looks like some hot but pretty running routes.
Thank you SaskAlliecat , I love relive, it’s so good watching people runs & I like it when it stops if you’ve taken a photo, so clever! I shall be either canoeing down the Dordogne on my birthday OR I have spied an email from DaddyCav enquiringly about hot air balloons which makes me a bit nervous! Think I’d rather be in a canoe!! 😝
Bonjour Mummycav, what a great run, I to like watching relive runs. Take care on those roads I hope you’re running in the correct side??!! Have a fab bday and stay cool. 😉🕶👍🌞
Thanks Jelon , I def see the cars before they see me! They’re barmy!! I drive like them, you have to otherwise they’re up your chuffer...they do move to the middle of the road once they’ve clocked you though thank goodness, don’t want to end up as road kill!! 🦔
Aw, thank you Oldfloss , it’s so beautiful here...i shall post after all my runs, even if it’s just a few photos for you!! I hope you are recovering well, I will take you out with me so you can get a taste of the lovely French countryside 😘 x
Félicitations MC et joyeux anniversaire ! I've found it hard to adjust to the heat in Greece but managed to get out at 7am today for a very hilly 3k - not quite the 8k week of JuJu's plan that I should be doing! Still better than nothing and glorious views. Enjoy the rest of your hols. 🙂 x
3k on the hills & with the heat is admirable...we all know the heat is tough after the heatwave at home so whatever we manage is absolutely fine & a run with a view sounds beautiful...you enjoy the rest of your hols too x
