So after a couple of failed 10k attempts - where I achieved 2 PB’s in my 5k and a PB for a 10k when I walked the last 2k, I decided that this morning I would go more slowly and try to last the distance.
The weather was perfect, the heavy rain first thing really cooled the air, and the light drizzle cooled rather than hindered!
I creaked along for the first few hundred metres until I relaxed and the running legs took over. I deliberately slowed down as I now know that when I go too fast I won’t last the distance, and the weather was cool enough to be out for a longer period of time too. I also wanted to not stop, and prove to myself that I could still run for 10k even after all of the holiday food and wine we have had!
And I made it! Even the traffic lights worked in my favour so I didn’t need to wait unnecessarily. I was well hydrated so didn’t need to pause for a drink and the overcast skies meant that the air was fresher than it has been for a while.
No personal bests today... nearly my slowest run ever, but one I am proud of nevertheless.
Happy running everyone, slow and steady rules the day!
