I'll take that as my 2nd runniversary

....this morning's run. I haven't posted much recently, on account of not having run much in the hot weather. My last run was on the Saturday afternoon that England played in the World Cup semifinal and it was also our village fete, so I thought, good, the paths will be quiet. However, it was so hot I had to cut it short and come home after 2.5k. On non-work mornings I've felt too lazy to get up early enough to be out before it gets too hot.

Today I dragged myself up and out at 8.30. The heat was marginal, bearable in the shade, just about. I did one of my favourite routes and reflected on the past 2 years. I would not have believed it then, on the morning I tentatively tried out w1r1 of c25k, that I'd still be running 2 years later! I managed 5.5k today and am thinking of a Parkrun on Saturday, which would be my 10th (if I can drag myself out of bed again πŸ˜„)

I have learned and benefited a lot from this forum, I probably would have given up running without the support of many friends here (you know who you are, too many to mention by name πŸ˜„) and just being able to post about a run, good or bad, and get lovely feedback has been so encouraging.

What next? I've realised I'm never going to be fast, or run long distances. I may have another crack at a 10k - when training for the last one I got injured and had to pull out of it. That's all better now. I might gather courage and contact a local running club, although they seem scary and I'm really a solo runner at heart I think. I don't want to put myself off running by feeling I have to keep up or compete.

I'm glad to have got out today and my mood has definitely lifted. That's what running does for me! Happy running, everyone! πŸ˜€

Happy Runniversary Joy! Don't overthink about the future, you're still running after two years when so many aren't or haven't even started. As long as you enjoy it that's all that matters πŸ™‚

Hello Joy57, Well done you running after a break! I've now not run for over 2 weeks having been away for 10 days - assistant cook for 110 people at a GLOD camp. Now away again, but there is a possibility of a shady run, so perhaps ... I also feel that I shall never be fast or run far and sometimes wonder whether I shall continue at all, but have, I think decreed that my lovely running shoes need at least a year's use to justify my having invested in them. All the best with your future runs and congratulations on your 2nd Runniversary!

Thanks! I'm 59 so not that much younger than you! One thing - what is GLOD? Cooking for 110 sounds like hard, hot work!

Hi Joy, Yes it was hot cooking! But not really hard work. The word camp is rather inaccurate as the 'camp' takes place in a boarding school in Gloddaeth, North Wales, hence the name GLOD. Consequently we use massive ovens and pans! Glod Holidays are holidays with a Christian ethos for young people. They include all sorts of activities that I would steer clear of! I'm not in to high speed or wet, particularly if I am not in control.

I managed a run before lunch. To remind me of how I have forgotten my associated skills I clicked add a route, but forgot to press start on my phone app. Also I have cone away without my phone charger so now my phone has a critically low battery.

Happy running to you.

Well done on 2 years running Joy57 - I agree it lifts the spirits and I can’t see me not doing it now. Just got to keep away from IC

Congratulations on you runniversary. Glad you had a good run this morning. It has been far from ideal the past few weeks. Just doing the minimum to keep up the habit and not lose too much stamina.

Thanks AR. Yes, just trying to keep fitness up. Never thought I'd say this, but I am looking forward to some cooler weather! πŸ˜„

Congratulations, 2 years. How time has flown. I could read so much of my journey in your story.

Aw, thanks Sue! I always enjoy your posts, hope both our running journeys go on and on.... πŸ˜„

Ive never done a park run, but from all others have said, they are not competitive and people are very supportive. I like running on my own too, and I’m not fast, but i would like to experience running in company as I think it might lift my speed a bit. And congrats on two years, running 😊

Thanks Flick! I have mixed feelings about Parkrun, I think it would be more fun if you go with someone but I've always gone alone and although I've enjoyed the running, it would be nice to chat to someone on the way round, or afterwards. Actually, I think I did one with my daughter but she was much faster and we just met up at the end. Parkruns up north are probably more friendly (as are people generally) so there's probably more chance of striking up a casual conversation with someone. I will have to try a northern one sometime on my travels!
