It's My Runniversary! 😁😁😁

Yes I believe today marked 1 year since I started c25k! I feel I've come a long way 😁 from struggling around the local allotments too embarrassed to be seen, not able to run for a minute, to the joy of completing W5R3 🀣 followed by graduation and a sub 30 5k 😁

Within 6 months of starting I'd progressed to HM distance, lost weight, felt fitter and grown massively in confidence.

A bit of a dip after that for a few months, I was still training but not to the level i had been, nice weather and alcohol knocked me off course for a while!

Regular training has got me back on track though, I'm not as light as I would like to be, I am running most days, am going to the gym regularly and feel stronger and faster than I ever have πŸ’ͺ🏻

Running didn't just change my life, it saved it πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I did run today, a 28 min 5k, also got the dreaded "New Shoes Needed" reminder from Strava after covering nearly 800km in my ASICS Gel Cumulus and close to 1000km in a year.

Any good shoes on sale? I'm leaning toward trying some Brooks Glycerin but I'm not 100% yet.

Have a great day everybody!

You're getting more mileage out of your shoes than I am. 600km seems to be the point where the rubber has gone from the soles of mine. My current shoes are at 450km. The previous ones lasted 580km. I already have two new pairs on standby ready to use in exactly the same style.

(My graduation anniversary will be the 28th of this month.)

To be honest my shoes still look pristine, I dont want to push it though and risk an injury due to a worn out shoe.

nowsterGraduate10 in reply to Jericho2332

Mine are "barefoot" and there's almost no cushioning to start with.

Jericho2332 profile image
Jericho2332Graduate10 in reply to nowster

Mine have a decent amount of cushion, I think could easily get more time out of them.

There's a lot of wear on that right heel!

Yeah I've bit the bullet and ordered a new pair! Il use these old ones as gym shoes 😁

I've went with new brooks glycerin as they have been so highly recommended by good friend of mine, plus brooks have a free return policy if you really don't get on with there shoes πŸ‘πŸ»

Happy runniversary Jericho! You’ve been on quite the journey, and you must be very proud. You’ve nailed some amazing times and distances over the year, and you’ve mastered any setbacks like a pro. WELL DONE! 🎁🎁🎁

Happy runniversary Jericho2332 , I started C25K just a few weeks before you, in mid-May 2020!

I absolutely have to replace my shoes (Brooks Cascadia 15) soon, as I've done over 1000km in them. Hanging on desperately until I can try the Cascadia 16, as the new model sounds like it might suit me even better than the 15.

Thank you 😁 sounds like Brooks make a good solid shoe if you got over a 1000km out of a pair πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Happy runniversary and very well done on all that you have achieved. Happy running. My shoes usually last about 800 km's too. If the ones you have suit you, and your comfortable in them whilst running, then I'd stick to that model. I run in Brooks GTS, last year I bought a pair of Mizuno Wave Inspire, they did not suit me at all. I was in agony running in them. I only wore them on 2 separate 5K runs, shop wouldn't take them back. So I went to a different shop and bought a pair of Brooks GTS again. It was an expensive mistake.

Thank you! That's sound advice πŸ‘ŒπŸ»I do like my ASICS but have to admit I only bought them because they were on sale at an amazing price when I got them 🀣 something which Brooks never seem to be. Works STILL terrible so will have to shop around for a good deal again.

Happy runniversary, what journey you’ve been on. Well done reaching 800km with the same pair of shoes, you’ll really notice the difference when you get new ones. Do buy for comfort and what fits rather than recondition and sale prices as everyone is different. Happy running πŸ€—

Congratulations on your one year running aniversary, mine is in sept, it's mad how far we've come, and how good it feels to just get out there and run, those first few runs of c25k seem a long time ago now!!! πŸ‘πŸ₯³πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘

Cheers Peter, not many left from our graduating time! Haha yeah some of those early runs I thought I'd never be able to run! Mind I spent 40 years believing that 🀣

Well done bud. Congratulations on the anniversary and the amazing progress you've made. I haven't posted (or logged on for ages) but was thinking of trying to get back out there. I gave up last year after three back-to-back isolations and then catching Covid myself! I've been wanting to start running again but have been worried that my ankles and feet wont survive after all the injuries I suffered last time but before my anniversary clocks around (on the 31st Aug) I might start finally start the programme again!

Great to check in and see you're doing so well though mate

SD! Nice to hear from you πŸ‘πŸ» wow that's some terrible luck with the dreaded covid 😳

Starting again will appear daunting but well worth it πŸ‘πŸ» you can do it! Avoiding injury is a real mine field, correct footwear, rest days, correct pace etc... But also worth looking at some of the strength and flex stuff on here πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

No run for me today, need a rest day! Was in the gym last night for couple of hours though and will be back in tonight πŸ’ͺ🏻🀣 mission this year to be running loads AND be in shape 🀣🀞🏻

Great to see you back, hopefully be reading some posts soon πŸ‘πŸ»

Hi Jericho, brief update….I finally got my running shoes back on and headed out the door. Bank holiday Monday again (the day I started 1 year ago) and I’d promised myself I wouldn’t leave it any longer.

I wasn’t sure where to start but went with a week 2 C25K routine to test myself. 90s running and 2 minute walks 🀣 A long way from where I was but I know the programme will get me back to the proper runs in no time. Just hope to keep injury free! It actually wasn’t too bad - good to have Jo encouraging me on again and being back out in the countryside with some good tunes. 🦌

Let hope I keep it up and get back into the running routine.

You will be back in no time πŸ‘πŸ» I'm sure the bug will bite again 😁 12k for me today (2k warm up, 8k tempo, 2k cool down) and got a 10miler planned for in the morning if legs feel up to it 🀞🏻

StoneDragon profile image

Cheers buddy. That’s some running there - slightly embarrassing that your warm up was about as far as I traveled during the timed part of my run πŸ˜€πŸ˜‚

Happy runiversary! Couch to half marathon in a year is quite something! πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»I’ve just passed a year and I’m hovering about the 11k Mark now heading for 10 miles. Working does not help at all πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I love my Brookes Cascadia and am waiting for the sale so I can get last years model at half price. Wishing you great runs and no injuries for another year πŸ‘πŸ»

Jericho2332 profile image

Thank you Frizzbomb 😁 couch to half Marathon in 6 months was quite pleasing, been working back up to that distance lately as I'd dropped back to just doing 5 and 10k runs, I'm at 10 miles this week so HM back in sight 😁 then maybe look at a marathon πŸ€”

Well done Jericho, hadn't clocked that so many familiar post names all started within a few months of each other. I started in July.....and got to 10 miles in June this year. I've still got a HM in my head but not convinced it will transfer to my feet! Running 3x a week still, 2x5k and a longer one...in the region of 10k but not got to that magic 10 miles again yet. My shoes were asics too, in a sale at Β£44..... I got exactly the same model again as I couldn't fault them...not waterproof tho. I mainly run on soft ground tho so gentler on the soles I guess.

Jericho2332Graduate10 in reply to Mormor1

Thanks Mormor 😁 good that your keeping up with the regular running πŸ‘πŸ» 10 miles is quite a tough run psychologically, but once you have achieved that I found that the HM followed pretty swiftly, I'm sure you will get it once you decide to go for it πŸ‘πŸ»

You are doing just brilliantly, J! Be super proud of your achievements… Those leaps you made were just mind-bogglingly jaw-dropping. One minute, finishing c25k; the next, you’d made it to 10k!! And the… omg, it was too much to wake up to each morning.πŸ˜‚ Some downs as well as ups - all part of being human - and you didn’t give in.

A very, very happy first Runniversary! Looking forward to your second already. πŸ’•
