I thought I wasn’t quite up to the 10k challenge but yesterday when I was walking with the dog I thought to myself this would be a good place to run it was half shady and flat! Normally I run on bark and it’s a little bit hilly! I went back this morning and I ran 5k in 30.49 I am in shock! I’m still wondering if Strava has gone loopy but I had runkeeper going too and that said the same but for a few seconds! And I did it on the hottest day of the year so far so no excuses now! 😎😎
First Post on B2 10K: I thought I wasn’t quite... - Bridge to 10K
First Post on B2 10K
Go you!!
That is an excellent time Bridget. It looks like you’ve just talked yourself into the b210k. I’ll wave you goodbye from the bridge.
I think I have 😃 if I get to 7.5K then I’m going to get myself a watch like yours it’s really smart looking and my favourite colour 😎
That’s a good incentive. I took it out on a run today and just love it. No more playing around with my phone on the startline as I can start the music on the phone well before and then put it away. Everything else is on the watch.
That must lovely not to be trying to put your phone in your running belt while running .. I’m always trying to accidentally squeeze it into the smaller pocket which it wouldnt fit in if I broke it in half 😆 is it easy to set up?
Put it like this, if I can do it I think anyone else can. If you haven’t seen it already I put a post up on the subject and lots of advice from our friends on the forum. I know I won’t use it to it’s full potential but you can set it up to do intervals etc as well. OH is on the verge of buying one since seeing mine in action today. He is mr stats so will love it. 😉
Welcome to the bridge(t). So happy to see you here. Bloody heck. What a fabulous time. You might as well order that watch now !
Thank you ... I still think Strava must have been affected by the heat and I’ll be back to my usual time the next run 🤣🤣🤣
Wowsa, hon!! Insanely good time!! xx
Wow go Bridget! That's super speedy. I think if 2 apps said so then it must be true 😉
Congratulations Bridget, that’s an excellent time! 👏👏👏
Wow that’s speedy and I’m this heat, you must have been melting by the end?!! 🙌🏃♀️🕶😅
Congratulations, I am guessing that the new terrain helped with that time (which is fantastic by the way) you will have to slow it down for your longer runs though, if you don't believe me ask mountaindreamer 😉
That’s amazing Bridget!!! Super well done. 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Well done Bridget! 😃🏃♀️❤️ And welcome to this side of the bridge! I’ve only just crossed over, and started week 1 of Juju’s Magic 10K plan on Saturday. Why not come over and give it a go? (Only 5.5k for the long run in week 1, which, I did this morning and it didn’t seem too bad.) As Berksrover says, though, I’m aiming to embrace my inner snail and slow down while I up distance...🐌🐌🐌😊
Thank you 😊 and I will definitely give it a go now I’ve found some shade 😃😃 and well done for doing 5.5k in this heat! I am going to embrace my inner snail once again 🐌
Glad to have a new starter buddy for “big school”! 😃😃
Check the pinned posts to find Juju’s weekly posts for this rollout of her 10k plan. Here’s a link to the first week, which shows the 8 week schedule...

You can just post that you are starting under the current week’s post, as it’s a rolling programme with lots of people at different points. 👍🏃♀️❤️
Well done Bridget, what a brilliant time, no wonder you're over the moon. Glad you're coming over the bridge, welcome aboard.
Bye bye Bridget 🏃♀️😢
You’ve done park runs! I’m still not brave enough! Are you going to do longer runs? I’m going to see how they go even if it takes me ages I just love the feeling of running 😃😃
Never say never but I am doing more than I ever thought possible. If I can run 5k 3 times a week I might think about it when it cools down. But I am enjoying where I am at the moment. Don’t worry I’ll still be watching you all from the bridge. The Parkrun is my favourite of the week and I think that’s mainly because I enjoy running with others. I don’t know how I’ll fare in bad weather though , I’m a bit of a fair weather girl. 🏃♀️☀️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️
It’s definitely about enjoying it, it’s such a lovely feeling when you’ve enjoyed a run I sometimes feel like saying to random strangers “I ran 5k this morning” 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I might try a park run when it cools down .. I wouldn’t want anyone I know see me with sweat stinging my eyes 😅😅😅
A fantastic achievement, well done to you....
Yey! Well done Bridget007 , looks like it 10k soon for you!!! Welcome on board!!
Hi Bridget007, Well done you! 🍾🥂🎉🎉🎉 I thought that you were a snail like me but, yikes!!! You have whizzed on at a roaring pace! Brilliant and lovely to hear how much you are enjoying your running. I have been away helping as an assistant cook for a GLOD camp of 110 people. No running for over two weeks, oh dear! I am away again now as part of my husband's leaving work arrangements - he resigned! There is a possibility of a run. My plan is to don my running gear as soon as I have pressed reply! I realise that where I live there are no flat routes and the routes I choose, as I want to enjoy the scenery, are all uneven under foot, so speed is unlikely for me. Congratulations again and all the very best for your future runs and your transition to the Big School. 😊 Running star! 🏃♀️⭐️
Thank you 😊 I think it was luck that I found a route where a lot of it was in the shade that was on tarmac and as flat as a pancake 😊 my B2 10k has not quite started yet as the night before last my son dropped a large bottle of water which landed on my little toe and it is now black, blue and purple! Another excuse is the weather which is 34 degrees today 😅 I am hoping to squeeze my toe into my trainers tomorrow and start then as it’s supposed to thunder all night tonight so will hopefully be cooler tomorrow! I will be back to embracing my inner snail 🐌 Assistant cook at GLOD sounds like fun! 110 people though! That’s a lot of mouths to feed! I hope you enjoy your run today🏃♀️and if I had your lovely scenery nearby I would love it even with the uneven footing and hills! Now that your husband has resigned you might be able to run together 😃😃
Back home although my husband's leaving arrangements are not yet concluded. He is not in good health, so joint running is unlikely at present, but who knows what the future will bring? I do hope that your toe is getting better. I did manage a run whilst away. I remembered to press to keep the app on, I remembered to press to make the phone bright so that I could read it. I remembered to press the key to add a run, but I forgot to press start!!!! So know idea how long or how far I ran, but glad that I did. 😊 Not far and not long, but it was a start. All the best for your next runs! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
Hi Bridget, Just tried to message you via your profile page, but couldn't seem to make it work, so I thought that I would try here instead. I do so hope that you and your family are alright as I have not seen anything from you for quite a while.
That is so lovely of you. We are all fine thank you. First my son dropped a bottle on my toe and I couldn’t get my shoe on, then I hurt my hip when I was running which took about 4 weeks to get better and then it was the 6 week summer holidays. I have just started to plod again and now the weather has got that lovely autumnal nip about it I am hopefully going to be back on track soon 😊 how is your family and your running journey going? Well I hope.
Hi again Bridget,
So good to hear from you. And very pleased to hear that you are all fine. Sounds like your toe and hip must be back in order. That is very good to hear. I remember, by the way, that some of your plodding was seriously speedy!!
I see it is 2.07am as I type. I have a serious case of jet lag! After all my husband's leaving work arrangements we had a week or so to prepare for our USA trip! I managed to squeeze in my first ever Parkrun before we went. It was great!
The reason for our trip was to attend our niece's wedding. One of my brother's has lived in California for 33 years and this was our first ever stay with him. We spent 6 days with my brother, duly attended our niece's lovely outdoor wedding and then embarked on a California road trip. Lots of great new sights and experiences. No running though and sadly my husband was unwell. The hospital doctor wanted my husband to stay in hospital but he refused or perhaps I should say declined. Amazingly he managed to complete all the driving. Some of the freeways have almost more lanes than I can count! I am so glad that I didn't have to try driving.
I have now re-started running. I started with 15 minutes and will add 3 or 4 minutes a day just running Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with the aim of completing my second Parkrun in mid October just before my 62nd (yikes) birthday!
Do you have any jet lag experience? This was my first ever long haul flight 6000miles each way. I slept brilliantly the first night back although very badly on the plane, so that probably helped my good sleep on return. This lulled me into thinking that I sorted the whole thing in a day! Ha ha! No I really hadn't. I have slept hardly at all since (the last three nights) until my alarm at say 7.15, when I am then ready to sleep!! Still the 8 hours out which is the time difference between the west coast of the USA and here . This is the first time that I have decided to get up instead of lying there sleepless! My plan is to get some sleep when I feel tired, hopefully soon and seriously force myself up at 7.15am.
Too much information! Sorry! I look forward to hearing how your return to running develops and hope that your children have gone back to school happily.
It sounds like we are both starting again, although thankfully not right back at the beginning!
Your road trip sounds brilliant, but I’m sorry to hear your husband wasn’t well. I hope he is feeling better now he is back home. I would be scared stiff if I had to drive on the American Roads they look enormous on the TV! That’s the only place I have seen them as I really don’t like flying!
I have just seen the post about your first park run and you look fab! Even with your gardening shorts on 😃 and you were so fast! Well done!
I hope your jet lag sorts itself out soon it.
Hi again Bridget, What sort of return to running plan are you adopting? Slept 3-7.15am, so hopefully I shall start to be tired at a sensible UK time tonight. Have recently been running in a pair of my daughter's cast off shorts! They may look better, but fabric doesn't have as much body to it, so no good for carrying my camera.
I can thankfully still do 20 minutes so will hopefully build up from there so very similar to your plan, we know we’ll soon be back where we left off 😃 I hope you get some sleep tonight 😴😴
Well done you. Straight in at 20 minutes. 😊 And are you considering a Parkrun before too long? Or any other target? Perhaps happy just to keep running. Whatever route you choose happy running to you!
I might pluck up the courage for a park run in October 😃 I hope you enjoy your next park run and that you sleep for longer than a few hours tonight!
Thank you! Surely I must sleep tonight, especially as it is already late and I haven't slept since my measly 3 -4 hours last night! Aiming for Parkrun on Saturday 13th October, but I'd like to feel back to where I was before and also I don't want to run in the rain! i don't think I have the full running bug yet!
Hi again Bridget, Just wondering how you are and if your running is going to plan. you'll be pleased to know that my sleeping is much better now and running is progressing. Should have been 30 minutes this morning, but I misjudged it and ran for 35 minutes including some steep parts. Perhaps was a bit much left me achey, but I think that i'll be fine by Monday. I think that I am hoping for 5k on Monday! My plan is downstairs and I'm upstairs, so that is why I am not quite sure what I had planned, probably on a scrap of paper somewhere!
Hi there 😃 I’m glad you’re sleeping is better there’s nothing worse than not being able to sleep I suffered once from insomnia only sleeping for 30 minutes a night and it was awful! Your running schedule sounds exactly the same as mine! I did 4K on Monday in 31 minutes and 4.5k yesterday in 34 minutes and my legs ache today I’m thinking 5k Monday too 😃😬 it was slow and steady but I’m just glad to be running again as it makes me feel “alive” 😃 I’ll let you know how I get on Monday and you let me know how you get on 😃
Hi Bridget,I hope that your 5k went better than mine! I have developed a head cold and do not feel 100%. Set off at 7 am - ish and with the drizzle, wet feet and not feeling so good was really slow. 32mins 39secs for 3.36km, with hills. so just average of 6.2km/hr and 9'43"mins/km. Altitude increase of 108m and me wondering how i ever did that Parkrun averaging over 9km/hr. Ah well! I have had a long break and am not feeling well, so I shall just have to take it slowly. How did your run go? Two fields of cows by the way!
A head cold can make you feel horrible so well done for getting out there and in the drizzle! My 5k went slowly ... the weather here was really warm yesterday and by the time I was getting near 5k I was app watching willing the numbers to go faster as I was boiling hot 😅. I’m glad I didn’t attempt it today though as it’s still warm but really windy too! I hope you are feeling better today and that you will soon be flying around at park run again!
And very well done being back at 5k 😊 You super star you! ⭐️ I perhaps ought to manage 4k which I haven't yet, before 5k. Had hoped to feel ready for Parkrun on 13/10, but only really want to trek over there ( 20mins plus in the car) if I am ready for a PB. Otherwise I would prefer to run from my door after a warm up, that is. All the best for your next runs.
Yes it is a bit of a trek if you don’t feel well, you will soon be back there though. At least we don’t give up we just keep trying! I hope you feel better really soon! And I forgot to mention in my earlier post that if I had to run through fields of cows I would get a PB every time!!!! 😂😂
How are you and your running?
I’m fine thank you 😃 I hope you are well too. I have been running 4 or 5k every other day and was thinking about trying for the bridge to 10k again but on Tuesday I tripped over a tree root and flew through the air (well that’s what it felt like 😂) and landed on my knees which are now bruised and swollen! So another little rest and I’ll try running again on Monday 😃 how is your running going?
Oh! So sorry that you have had a fall. Yes I am fine and running is progressing. Three runs a week, one longer and one with intervals of increased speed. Not back up to where I was before my holiday. Do hope that your knees recover very quickly
Yaay Bridget!! What a great time. Fantastic!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️
I’ve had a bit of time out with a dodgy hip and school holidays since this post but will hopefully be back at this time soon 😃😃😃 I hope you are getting on well with your running 😃😃
Ooh so sorry Bridget I didn’t realise!! 😯 I hope you’ll be back at your best very soon too. Yes still having fun! Still loving it! ❤️
Fantastic Bridget!! Well done you!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽❤️ Oh this was a while ago! Sorry! 😐😬❤️
I’m hoping to get back to it soon! I’ve just done a slow 5k as what with this that and the other have got all behind but am slowly getting back into it! I see you are getting along brilliantly well done! 😃😃
