My realities of having my new friend called running.

Finding a new friend called running late in life has been a roller coaster of emotions.

So much to process and address practical issues that threatened the very existence and continuity of such a relationship.

Just as an example, and perception is reality in my book, my new favoured friend, running versus my less favoured friend gardening.

I now find myself committed to weeks of catch up heavy graft for my friend the garden and my running friend will have to loyally and patiently wait , like a beloved family pet dog waiting for its special daily walk.

It is what it is.The care of my 30 year old garden has rewarded me with some core strength that has in turn helped me forge a relationship with my new running friend and now my new found strengthing from running has given me renewed vigour to get this big gardening job done.

From experience I can confirm that 200 yards of mature 80 year old hedging etc., is not for the faint hearted. With the conflict of interest I can honestly say this year I was dreading it.Running has more than prepared me for this challenge now.

So for the next few weeks behind the garden gate and with family coming to visit and family commitments I will run in my mind.I have found my running friend challenges me to exercise my mind much more, actually I guess like gardening and other interests do also.

I drift in and out of issues from advice, others wisdom and even my mortality.lol.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚This new running friend wants to keep me busy.πŸ€”

My cousin reminded me what our grandfather advised when first leaving home,

If you cannot find any better company than your own, then keep your own.πŸ€”

Endless thoughts and ramblings,πŸ™ˆ

There once was a man, so poor, all he had was money.πŸ€”

It gets heavier, when I think of my mortality, here is something that consoles me.

Death, you are not my end,

Nor may I avoice you and I do not pretend,

But when this body, in which my soul exists,

Has become worn crumpled, broken, is too tired to resist, your invitation to walk with you,

To take your hand and to pass through,

That oh so feared and darkened door,

Leading to heaven and to life evermore,

For you are but an angel sent to guide me, to there from here.πŸ€”

I have read on the forum of some people’s fear of dogs and wish I could send a caption, techie πŸ¦•πŸ™ˆ

No drama,

Imagine a little puppy of your favourite breed, sitting looking up at you wanting to please with its large all knowing eyes,

Now read the little notice around it’s neck,

What a beautiful world it would be,

if people had hearts like dogs.πŸ€”

Hope this maybe new beginnings from traumatic experiences.πŸ‘πŸ‘

Sorry for the ramblings, I have like many I think and all with different journeys, remained resolute to keep this relationship with my knew found running friend and cannot wait to get going again.

Pleased to say that he has left me well recovered from my first and last half marathon for a little while.

Running is the life’s blood of my soul.

Take care of you and enjoy this gift to yourself.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’₯

I enjoy the ramblings, but I do find it hard to navigate them sometimes.... I normally have to read them a few times.... they can be a little like trying to read Ulysses (at least to my 1/2 asleep brain! Lol.

Keep rambling, keep posting and enjoy the garden my friend!

I am sorry my friend too early at anytime.

Guess I am not quite gaga yet but heading that way.πŸ€”πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Keep enjoying yourself.πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ‘

What a lovely post. I especially love your grandfather's saying and the one about the poor man. I will use them πŸ™‚ I take a note of all my favourite quotes and sayings and refer to them from time to time and quote them to friends and family πŸ™„ (they're used to me)

We've exchanged posts before about gardening and I think you know that gardening is my other passion to running. And you're right, one complements the other very well. And that hedge didn't stand a chance did it?

Thank you for your post and sentiment and I, for one, love every single day of my gift πŸ€—

I’m with you both, I love my garden and it rewards my care and attention very well! I often get on the land at 6:30 am this weather.......instead of a run. It’s a core work out for sure!

Happy ramblings Tbae xxx

Ps, We have privet all round and a large garden......man or woman versus hedge........ but privet always looks great when it’s done don’t you think Tbae πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Your a star Millsie, need to take a leaf from your book on early starts.πŸŒŸπŸ‘πŸ‘

I try to stay quiet with a noisy petrol driven Stihll hedge cutter, so never start cutting until 0900 and never spoil the evenings.

Still plenty other quiet jobs to do. Shrub care, lawn care, edging, weeding, deadheading rhoddies and azelias and other acid lovers.I have many trees ,20 , hawthorn, eucalyptus, rowan , acer autumn blaze, cherry , etc.Trying to create a high level vista above the 2m hedge height limit.πŸ€”

Yes we have 40% privet, 40% escallonia and 20% fuschia.

In the 30 years I have had to cut the hedge longitudinally with a chain saw to bring the depth of the hedge back from 10 feet thick to around 4feet deep.Possibly 3-4 times.πŸ™ˆIt just bounces back.

Last year I was shocked by the harsh winter, never saw the privet so black, all over the island, particularly the privet.Pleased to say recovered.

I am a local joke,on hedge cutting , spirit level and all that.πŸ€”πŸ˜‚. I just sight surrounding buildings to keep things level. Its an engineers thing.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

The plot is completely surrounded by a low Welsh stone rubble wall and the boundary hedges sit within this wall.

Millsie I cannot believe the energy return I have benefitted from the programme and this forum.

Magic.

Take good care of you and your running and your garden and the forum.Busy lady.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯

Yes my cousin does what you do, notes and collects.

She lost her Mother this year and has been losing faith in human nature, bless her, I tried to her encourage her to watch some of the ted lectures and Brene Brown, whose starting position is, we exist to connect, not disconnection ,

I compromised for her and wrote we exist to connect with like minded people. She recorded that to my surprise.πŸ€”πŸ‘

IP, That’s is so encouraging and inspiritational to hear you love your gift.It shows through your knowledge and support and links also.

Good luck with your other passion, we have a treat of rain. Our Woodland Workout group got watered also this morning.I have not grown very much though.Plants rule.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Take good care of you.See you soon.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯

Yes, sometimes someone says something that really resonates at the time and so I keep little pearls close to me at all times πŸ™‚

I'm going to do a rain dance when it next rains here. Can't wait β˜”οΈπŸ€—

Woohoo Tbae! A HM - very impressed, you have done brilliantly! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸ˜ƒ - and I’m positively green because I’m back on the IC again. 😑

I’m gardening too & cycling. I love your ramblings, take care. πŸ˜„

Oh no Elfe5 ! What's happened?

Hi Irishprincess, I have developed a very painful knee- it just came on β€œout of the blue”. I’m seeing our dr on Wed, he is very good and also a runner. I was feeling very disappointed because I have built up so carefully after the pneumonia and was really excited about running over the summer, (I’m a teacher). However, you and Tbae have unwittingly given me the kick I needed - I love my gardening, birdwatching and cycling too & I can do those while my knee mends - so thanks to you both, you made me think about counting my blessings running or not. Back in positive mindset.πŸ˜€ xx

Sorry to hear that but it's good you're seeing a "running" GP! Cycling is very good for knee injuries as it builds the muscles surrounding the knee. I know this because my husband has had a knee replacement and the surgeon recommended cycling to build up strength.

But gardening is good exercise so it's all good. I hope you get a positive diagnosis and the running will always be there. I haven't done that much this summer for various reasons but I know it's there just waiting.....x

Sorry to hear that Elfe, but rest assured you will come back stronger.

You will achieve all you wish to.

My HM was great to have experienced that distance but at my pace it is a long shift.3.6 hours and counting.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

But I am pleased to say recovery was good.

Take good care of you and enjoy your gardening and cycling.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯

Loved your training run this morning.

Can follow your crunch up and fuelling rewards very clearly. Optimal little and often, way to go our woman of steel.

Sorry about the gate incident,I think I can empathise with that and I am becoming more deaf.

Light sensitive and noise pollution , pet hates now.Anywhere.Even in the gym, you know the types , grunting and throwing heavy weights around.

Impressed with your pull ups.Well done.I say grunt all you want when doing them.Anything to get you up.πŸ€”πŸ˜‚

Used your very first advice on current class and sorted out my sunnies.πŸ‘

After hedgecutting grunt stuff and hopefully catching your bus may arrive with some smarts and photos.Missed the Garmin offer. Just dithered around and worried about setting it up.πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

You are just a star.🌟

I was telling Mr Cool, Woodland Workout leader about your HM state of readiness, he was so impressed with the quality of that thinking.πŸ€”πŸ‘πŸ‘

As a novice,me, it is just so appropriate , as is any lesser distance, 10K, 5k, etc.All fitness levels in the bank are great.πŸ‘πŸ‘

All the best with your plans.πŸ’₯πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ†πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’₯
