Got there in the end.....

Followed the 10k plan, worked like a treat... now completed 2 10k's in a week and today crept over 6.5 miles.... what's the next part of the plan to sustain this and build to half marathon (for the Royal Parks in October)? Any suggestions or plans? Thanks...

Wow! Well done. I can’t offer any advice I’m afraid as I’m new here after graduating Couch to 5k on Sunday. I’ll be interested in any advice you receive though. Happy running 🏃‍♂️ 👍😊

I haven't done a half marathon (but am planning to in the next year) I'd consolidate 10k for a couple of weeks then find a training plan that you like the look of (google is your friend) or adapt one to suit you and gradually build the distance to the magic 21.1k

Good luck 😊

The next part is to do what you want to do. But take care and don't overdo it. There is no plan on these fora after the 10k (which is a relatively new addition to the site).

You could carry on with the 10k plan and just add 10% time or distance to your longest run each week. Or look for an actual plan/app to follow. My Asics is popular, although it's ending in September in favour of Run Keeper.

Don't forget strength/cross training on non-running days.

Perhaps do some investigating there are loads of magazines, websites that might give you ideas on what you want to do i.e. Trails, events, distance, speed

But the main thing is not to do hard runs every run or you will more than likely end up on the ic - a place no one wants to be.

Whatever you choose to do enjoy😀

AnnieW55 - thank you... I'll have a nose about for some plans and take the advice of cross training etc. on non running days (also will do a lesser distance on Friday morning to 'try' to do some speed work...). I've recently bought a punch bag and stand, so I think that will be a good start on non running days.. I'll keep people posted + also increase distance by around 10% each week (as you say, stay at around the 10k or so mark for a couple of weeks to get comfortable - if that's possible!).

Sounds like a plan 👍. And there is also the race support and marathon forum to look at if/when you are ready to go further, although you will be welcome on there anyway. There will be names on there you recognise too - me for one 😄

Fantastic, well done you!! How exciting, yes an October HM is perfect. Personally I would say carry on with a 5/10k, interval session and a long run increasing 10% a week with a rest every 4 weeks. You could add in a further 5k or above, and also do some strength work. There are loads of plans out there too. Perhaps we could do a HM plan to follow on here? Nice work Chopper.

ju-ju- well thanks to you and your plan I got hear... ok.. will do - I'll try the 5k and above plan and introduce slowly. A half marathon plan from the 10k step would be handy.... thanks again...

There are loads of plans around, beware some are paid for before you know whether they suit your needs. Strava have some, but again I'm not sure of they're only available to Premium (paid up accounts). Map My Run also have plans that are customised using a recent distance pace (5k / 10k). That's the one I'm working with, but again is a paid feature not available on their free version. It was a few pounds a months and can cancel any time so I thought I'd try it. Particularly as many are based on timed runs rather than distance (this one had both) and a lot have too many runs/ activities that I can't fit in. MMR let's you choose the amount you can do and adapts, it just might take longer!

There are of course likely to be many free plans/apps too, but they'll be quite static and you may have to just affair them yourself.

Good luck! 😁
