Conquered a fear!

Tonight I did a 5k trail race nearby. I was dreading it and contemplated not signing up on arrival! However the race director talked me into it. £7 down! Then we all headed to the start line. All I could see were lean running club types and I again nearly backed out. But then I saw the tail runner with some people near her so I headed over to them. They chatted to me straight away and set my mind at ease. Off we went and I’m glad to say, I fit comfortably in near the rear but not last. Not that it matters but you know what I mean. Had a nice chat with a few people at the end and extended my running acquaintances 👌🏽 Would definitely go to another now that I have tried the unknown.

Sounds fun Tasha! I've only done parkrun so far. I quite fancy having a go at other stuff. How did you find out about the race? x

Just on Facebook. I’ve liked runners world and ParkRun pages and things pop up now and again. And I think I googled races near me 👌🏽 I like to mix it up. Or I’m worried I’d get bored 😂

That was a nice run you did, Tasha99, nice friendly people you met, I like the map and the route you took, I notice that there is a golf academy and a butterfly world near the route you took, I am sure it is a very pictures route for a 5k trail.

Well done on the new experience, what made it a trail run though? Do you mean it just wasn't on the road?

Tasha99 profile image
Tasha99Graduate10 in reply topinkaardvark

It was on trails through woodland areas

Well done :) I haven’t braved running with other people yet, apart from Race for Life a few years ago, where people walked jogged and ran so it’s quite a safe option.

Looking at that map i think you might be near me (i’m Darlington) but when I searched for local runs I only found a 5 miler in Hamsterley which is described as “undulating”!! 😂🌲🌲

Yay! I’m in Middlesbrough! Desperately trying to find others in the area! I’ve found someone in Whitby and another in Hartlepool!

There’s another 5k trail in August in coulby newham. Then there are 10k trails on a monthly basis at ormesby hall but I daren’t do a 10k trail quite yet. Do you ParkRun?

😁 I got quite excited when I saw the map everyone seems to be further south!! Although I think I saw a post of someone running Near Derwent water.

I’ve only just graduated and finding I’m just maintaining 4K / 30mins runs at the moment. Have a fortnights holiday in early August and then hoping to start Ju’s 10k plan. As long as I don’t consume too much cheese and wine while away! 😁

Oooh have a great holiday! Yes, ju-ju-‘s plan is great! And bridging to 10k isn’t as hard as c25k!

I have looked at the Darlington Parkrun website a few times with the intention of signing up but not brave enough yet!! I know a couple of the marshalls (really fit folk) so I want to be confident I won’t look a plonker 😂 . The Ormeby 10 sounds like a nice thing to aim for once I get started x

You shouldn’t fear the ParkRun! I walked the first and have built up since then. Everyone is really nice 👍🏽

👍 run two each week of Ju’s plan is a 5k. 🤔🤔I’m thinking if I sign up at the beginning of September. Once the holiday is over and the kids are back to school. It will be a nice way to measure progress. At the moment I’m running at 6am as the heat even in Darlington is warm! Maybe see you there!

Brave. Well done. Must do some races myself but fear how slow I am 😂

Tasha99 profile image

That was my fear but there’s always a tail runner. I think there are always ‘normal’ people there too. Ignore the speedy ones 😂
