Need more practice at long runs

Thanks to all for the great tips before my long run this week. Yesterday evening post work was beautiful and I’d got my water, sweets and had hydrated during the day and eaten pretty well. I decided the best option was a there and back along the flat canal with the dog. Set off really slowly and mentally 5,5 miles one way at my place takes a long time! Turned around and at six miles I just stopped and walked as my head got the better of me. I then walked at a fast pace for two miles! Thereafter it was a mix of running and walking but mostly walking. Tbh when I started to run again my legs didn’t feel too bad however my head was not in the right place. Trying not to be too disheartened by this but thinking another time I’ll do a different route or even do the canal and get someone to pick me up as there and back is psychologically tricky! Bonus was it was a lovely evening I’ve covered the distance but I need to get over those psychological hurdles! Good luck to everyone doing long runs this weekend! Picture of my faithful running companion at a local nature reserve mesmerised by the ducks!

That’s a long run and no shame in walking, just practice until you can run the lot, on longer runs and my longer runs are 10k i don’t walk but if i’m struggling i run so slow until i can speed up a bit, and my slow is slower than the average walker Good luck for your next run

Thank you. I think it was a major jump so I do need more practice and a way to keep it interesting as it’s the mental bit that can be tough!

Nothing wrong with slowing down to a slow run instead of a walk? Actually, nothing wrong with jeffing to cover long distances. Well done. I’m sure the dog loved it too.
