Mainly posting just to commit myself to this endeavour. So marathon plan has started, it should be a bundle of fun like these meerkat I saw at the zoo on fathers day. Technically started yesterday but as I was at the gym then anyways I'm counting that as the circuit training. Wish me luck and any tips or thoughts are most welcome. I think this is going to be a challenge.
I hope Langley looper approves of my pretty fridge chart π

Wow. One hell of a goal. Which marathon. Have you entered or are you training then finding one that suits? Are you going to do a half first? Good luck I will eagerly follow your journey. A half is a major goal for me π
I have a half in October and a 10k but this plan will see me marathon ready at the start of September so gonna play it by ear. Have a few I could do. Norfolk coastal trail marathon or Loch Ness marathon but making no decisions yet.
Aw I really want to do one of the Loch Ness runs but they're in the same month as my other two halves. Why must they put all the events on at the same time! I hate having to choose. Next year maybe...
That's an impressive plan! We've all seen it now so you have to stick to it π It's one of the things putting me off eventually doing a marathon, the fact I'll have to knuckle down and train to a timetable rather than just blasting about the place as and when I fancy. The idea of being organised horrifies me, and I know it's necessary for a full marathon πΆ
Wishing you a smooth build up with your marathon training.
Accomplished 5k/10K runner to novice marathon runner.
I am thinking MoFarah experience.
Had a quiet peep at the Baxterβs Loch Ness, notice it runs along the east side, Foyers side, although I am from the area never been, always the west side from Fort Augustus to Inverness.
I know you have not yet decided, and notice toward end of September, long established event I think, are all the midgies dead by then.
Whatever you choose, you will do very well, applying your knowledge.
I have to laugh and can only dream ,7 hours for a marathon minimum, for me that is,there is not enough daylight hours up north, lol.
I could not even carry your water.lol.
I will watch with much interest and will be cheering from the side lines.
Yes I have never been down that side of the Loch but I am used to the midge being from Morayshire originally (with a lot of deet I can manage them for 4 hours). I have just realised though that week 1 of this plan has me running 39km and maybe I should have gone for the beginner level version hehe. Oh well, gym tonight and an 8k run
Youβll be fine as long as you get the training runs done ππͺππββοΈ
I have a marathon in November and begin training after after my next race on 1st July. I am slightly older than you π but believe that you just train for it and hope for the best. I ran walked my first one, which worked well
Oooooo! A plan on the fridge! With boxes to tick! I am in heaven! I definitely approve.
Now all you need is a set of coloured pens for the different type of activity. I had purple for Pre-conditioning, pink for Getting Faster, red for Going Further, orange for Race Simulation...the possibilities are endless.
As for taking on a marathon, you have my utmost respect. I will be following your progress (and pain) to remind me I am not going to do one.
I think this plan is simpler than that, mid week runs you take easy and weekend long runs are more pacey. I find all the pace stuff far too confusing for me and I struggle to run at different paces anyways. So i'm approaching this as do the miles and run the race. This is the intermediate plan for people who have run 2-3 prior marathons hence week 1 being 39k, I will drop down to the beginner version of the plan as and where I need to. I'm not insane and wk4 I think is 50k
