Swilling and spitting carb drinks?

WalkingWithLabradors profile image

I caught parts of a programme last night and it was saying not to swallow your sports energy carb drink but to swill it around your mouth to fool your brain you’re having carbs and then spit it out. You won’t put the weight on then but you will run with more energy. 😳. Does anyone already do this.

Water is fine. If it’s very hot add a tiny grain or two of sea salt. No need for these bought drinks.

I just don't use sports drinks. There science was based around 30mins activity where you don't need the fuel so spitting it out tricks the brain into making you work harder. But if your fueling because you need it ie 15k plus you need to swallow it lol. I do 90min gym sessions and only have water and don't feel the need for sugar.

Certainly not. Spitting is disgusting and unhygienic.

I can't believe that this programme is telling people to run around spitting all over the place, over the fear thay might absorb half a calorie during a run.

They were in a lab when they did it, and did finish by saying spitting in the gym probably wasn't to be recommended. I did find myself thinking I hope people don't now start spitting everywhere - chucking gel wrappers and cups drives me mad enough.
