HM training W1R3 Eynsham to Parkrun and lift back

I decided I’d do a run to Cutteslowe Park and join a club member on the Parkrun.

I really enjoyed the virtual 5mile run to the park, felt reasonably comfortable as I settled myself into what I consider to be my HM pace....11mins/ml.

I arrived at the park with a few mins to spare so jogged around a bit to keep myself warmed up. I did the 5k at my friends pace which suited me tbh, I’m only interested in the distance at the moment and I was in unknown territory being my longest run to date 😊

I’m off to Tuscany on hols on Weds and running gear going with me 😎

Enjoy the BH weekend guys and happy running 🤗

Thanks Flick, two days off did the trick 🤗

I think some extra rest days. I had made a breakthrough and have been running four times a week, but suddenly Im tired again and finding even a 6k run tougher ( well I did today, though it wqs very humid),

Hmm, is four times pushing it a bit Flick? 🤔

I’ve run 4 times this week and Weds run was tough....I didn’t think the 2k I did with my daughter on Tues would matter, how wrong I was, 3 runs from now on!

I’d stick to 3 if I were you, we’re not getting any younger you know 😊

Every other day felt fine and I felt strong so I went with it. My body is tired this week - partly lack of sleep - so I will listen to it. My progress goes in cycles, and each step up takes a toll, then I adjust. Don't forget I run a lot slower than you. My daughter and I compared colories burned and she had burned around 500 to my 325 or whatever it was, because she was running faster (having to run back to me lots while I caught up). I'm very good at listening to my body and trust my ability to do so 😊

I know you’re slower Flick but the body needs more recovery time at our age, especially after a long run.

I’ll be doing a short intervals run on Monday then maybe 5k on my hols on Thurs before a longer run Sun.....well that’s the plan anyway 😊

Enjoy your weekend x

Ahem...it's not me training for a half marathon ,😉last week I needed less recovery time, this week I need more. You can't apply a one size fits all. I'm overall pretty fit and have always been active, lots if walking, swimming etc. My doctor says my heart is extremely healthy, and my blood pressure is, in her words, like a teenager's (though I'm not sure if thats a good thing nowadays!) And I'm very slim. I haven't taken up running again from an obese, unhealthy couch. So please don't worry about me uncle Ted. I promise I won't overdo it - I'm far too scared of doing myself a damage to do that x

Sounds good to me.Where did you get your HM plan from. I’ve managed a 20.5k run once so think that maybe I should train for a half marathon, but not sure how to go about it.

I’m as near as, following Ju-Ju’s plan but with 20.5k under your belt, you’re only 600metres away 😊

I didn’t realise Ju-ju had a half marathon plan. I shall have a look.

You are fully ready for an HM plan Raz. I got mine through myasics.com, it was free, but there have been rumblings about a paid model, so it may not be free much longer. You just plug in what you are training for, what you can run now and it pops out a plan, with suggested paces, and distances. Some of the paces are just silly, but its good for structure.

I looked at the myasics plan but after dialling in my age etc. It was coming up with running at 15min/ml.....that’s walking! Lol

Haha yes as I say, some of the paces are just ridiculous!
