I'm new here, I'm a 60 year old guy (very nearly 61), who has been a regular runner to keep fit for some time but never ran any great distances. I can manage 5k in a reasonable sort of time (34-35mins) but it takes an awful lot of effort, I’d love to be able to do 10k but at the moment that seems a long way off

Hi oragneguy. To run 5k in 34-35 mins at 61 sounds very good to me,I take just over 40 mins so no where as fast as yourself. I could not run at all and started the c25k last September but by the end of the 9 weeks could only run just over 2.5 k so not very good and slow to boot as well.
I have just finished Ju-Ju`s b210k today (-: (I will be uploading post after I finish your post. I do not think you will have any problem reaching 5 k as you are regular fit runner.I think as long as you stick to the plan you will be ok. I expect more experienced members will give you some good advice but the advice I would pass on to you is what was passed onto me by others members. Basically slow down, that must be hard for a seasoned runner. Run the 1st 5k at a slower pace than you normally run and keep it slow for the second 5k. Some even use run/walk/run for the 2nd 5k. As I say a lot more seasoned runners on this forum who will set you on your path

If you can run already then that’s great as it means you just slowly increase your weekly distance, eg. No more than 10% a week, not just to 10km but beyond 🙂👍🏃♂️
I am 60 and learned to run with couch to 5k programme aged 57. I have done a marathon and am planning my next one. We can do all sorts. We just have to train for it 🙂
Good luck 👍

We can do this together then! Let’s do this!

Well done, you can run 5k in a very good time. To increase your distance join ju-ju- group doing 10 is the Magic Number. There is a post every week giving you tips and the 3 runs for the week. Lots of friendly advice and support from other runners. I found it great.

Well I'm just back from my week 1 10k plan run of 5.5k, a new street route due to my rural route being a bit muddy currently and I have to say it was not too bad, I still have the energy to type anyway
