I came across this old posting to another forum . rebellion.nerdfitness.com/i...
I feel that my running had progressed nicely for a few years - and then had a 7 month "pause" . Now that I have started up again 4 months ago, I realise that I have lost a lot - especially in the lungs department. I have run a few HM's and 10K's over those years - and in the process, I think I have trained myself to run slowly!! After all, 21.1 k is a long way and one has to be very conservative in case one does DNF!!
I did run 5K in 30 minutes once!! and would like to do it again. It doesn't really matter of course- The Universe cares not how fast I can run 5K and 10K , but I "kind of" do!!
I am about to go on another holiday - cruising out of the UK for a couple of months. I will only really have access to the ship's gym - so could be that I will lose a bit more "fitness" as NOTHING compares to road running . Anyway, the usual mantra for C25K ( being for beginners) is to run only as fast as allows you to finish each days task. SO - how about now setting a real running pace for the running segments for the duration of the programme . 5K in 30 minutes is 6 mins per k - so basically C25k to be done at 6 mins perk when running?? I can now quite easily run at 6 mins per K - in fact quite a bit faster - but NOT for 30 minutes !!
I think I have something to look forward to after I return home
