Achilles advice

So following a slogged out 10k run on Saturday I drove for 2 hours then repeated the drive later in the evening.

Upon getting up on Sunday morning after doing a bit of a stretch I noticed a subtle ping at the back of my heel.

Moving around is fine and my foot appears to be fine except at full extension for example coming down the stairs (going up is fine) when it gives out a little ping again (no noise).

I called 111 for advice and was told pretty much that if there is no pain not to worry about it.

I plan on taking a well deserved week off from running which will I hope ease any "done too much niggles" but if anyone has any idea what this is or some helpful advice it would be warmly received.

I get that in my neck sometimes, like a rubber band snapping, or a tiny electric shock. Ive never known what it was, but assumed it was something to do with the tendon stretching. It only ever happens on the left hand side at the back,

Interesting. I might be just being a bit paranoid. If I have done something silly I just don't want to make it worse. At the moment the plan is to do a short run Friday/Saturday and see how it is.

My gut feeling is be careful NHS helpline may not understand runners. You probably are ok, and Im sure you are for normal everyday activities, but it might be worth checking with your GP. Im not fond of giving out medical advice, as Im not qualified to know, but legs are worth being cautious about. Probably nothing though.

Thanks Flick. Don't want to waste their time if trivial. Took a gentle 2k yesterday and seemed to be ok. Will ease back in and if any further problems off I will go.

If there is no pain. Dont worry about it. If it becomes painful obviously react accordingly but otherwise forget it.
