I’m a recent C25K graduate and am still consolidating my runs. I invested in a new pair of trainers to celebrate and for the first couple of weeks they were fine. I’ve recently developed a pain in my right heel, around the bottom of my Achilles with an occasional shooting pain around the ball/base of my big toe. I was holidaying in Scotland last week so didn’t do any running, only walking.
Does anyone have any idea what this might be? I always stretch after running and also do yoga.
Please help !!

I have recently had Achilles niggles and it can be a sign of increasing running or speed faster than your body can cope with. Do lots of heel raise exercises and calf strengthening exercises , especially for the soleus muscle.
If you google Achilles tendinitis it will give you a list of things that can cause problems, flat unsupportive shoes (like flip flops) high shoes, increased running amongst others. Your new trainers might also be linked so it might be worth wearing them alternately with your old shoes to see if there is a difference.
Whatever you do, don’t run through pain, my physio said that me stopping immediately and resting and exercising meant I didn’t cause too much damage.
You might also want to check out plantar fasciitis?
If you can get to see a sports physio if things don’t improve, it could be quicker to get to the root of it. (I paid £50 for a session).
Thank you for your reply. A lot of this makes sense because whilst working at home I’ve either been in flip flops or bare foot whereas at work I wear a small heel.
I’m back in the office from next week so will see what happens.
I haven’t particularly increased my speed or distance so don’t think it’s that.
Looking at the weather forecast I might take some time off as I’m not very good in the heat 🥵
Take care of that Achilles, a fit friend of mine who ignored early warnings has been on minimum activity for months now while doing prolonged physio. Seek advice. Good luck 🤗
