I always use a bumbag as my arms are skinny and so no arm bands fit! I just use one I had from travelling years ago. Anything will do as you don't need anything fancy. Mine has a larger pocket for my phone and tissues (plus some jelly sweets if I'm going a long way, which I haven't recently!) and a smaller pocket for my keys which is handy as I'm paranoid about them falling out if I open a larger pocket to grab my phone to stop it.
I carry a small doughnut style water bottle if I'm going for more than about 40 minutes or it's warmer than about 22 degrees (which it often is here, to be fair). I've always found that's enough when I'm actually running and don't get bothered by carrying it although some people might.
I now run with a very fetching black basic bum bag that my kids brought for me as a Christmas joke present 🙄🤣 turns out it’s very useful for running!!
Is there room for a water bottle in it too x
Not really it’s quite narrow, my phone, tissues and keys fit. Anymore than that might be annoying bumping around? I do have a dog walking bum bag which fits loads more bits in it, that would hold a water bottle.
Very complicated this running carry on isn’t it x
Ha ha ....love this comment. I feel the same!! It is always very complicated!! I completed c25k last sept and used to run with my phone in my hand and then once I'd graduated I used to just run - and measure routes in my car so i knew roughly how far I was running!! I have done Parkrun regularly since graduating so I know I can run 5km. Recently - over a few months thought about increasing distance but suddenly it had got technical!! I have downloaded Strava on my phone and run with my phone tucked into my waistband of leggings!! Not very successful so like you have been thinking of buying a phone carrier - I quite like the look of the stretchy ones. I thought about need to carry water bottles but have decided against as i have no intention of going further than 10k!!
At least the other complication of what to wear when its cold and what to do with the layers as you peel them off will hopefully soon be gone as warmer weather comes!!
Happy running - I guess once we've mastered all those technicalities of how to carry phones, water etc, we will be real runners!!

I have this one, amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01... I bought it a while back but hadn't used it until last night. As it's now too hot for jacket/tops this is ideal for a phone and a gel or water pouch at a squeeze.
I haven't ran with water yet(15k) but feel i should past that so I have bought some of those roll up bottles that can hold about 350ml, which will be more than I need for evening running. I will try one tomorrow night on my long run(18k+)
I haven't previously carried a phone, mine is too large to fit comfortable on the arm(but I have now switched to a compact phone) so hopefully will start taking it instead of the ipod as a safety measure.
I have one similar to this ( mine from sports direct). It works well.

I hate hate hate bags to run with, of any variety. It's something to do with the way they move, and the inevitable sweaty patch that grows behind them. My arms are too narrow for an arm holster but I suspect I'd feel the same about that. I do have a flip belt which I used to like but the last time I used it it rode up like a weird bra and I've not used it since. Now I just put my door key in a towelling wrist pocket thing, basically a sweat band with a zip in it, and hold my phone in my hand. I do use an elastic holder for the phone because I bought my handset sim free and dropping it would make me very sad and poor. That's all I need, phone and key, so my storage is minimal, and better still cost about £4.
A company called Good Times , I bought a ‘ very stretchy belt’ it has two zipped pockets , they will def hold an iPhone 8 . It clips round your waist and does not move when you run . Think if you want water have a water bottle that goes round your hand in a bag I think it would be irritating 😀

I love my ‘Flip belt’ they do water bottles for it as well.

I understand your dilemma. I am however a fan of my arm band for my phone, a neoprene type one by Portholic from Amazon many months ago. It fits my small upper arm and I find it ok on bare skin.
I ran with a Karrimor donut water bottle today for the first time. The sloshing was a bit annoying but bearable and I got used to it.
Jelly babies and house key squeeze in the tiny pocket in the back of my shorts.
Tissues tuck in the top of my knickers.
I couldn't carry anything else without investing in waist baggage which I think I would find constructive and sweaty. Might be prepared to consider a flipbelt if I was sure it would stay on my hips and not ride up.
