Completed 10k race yesterday ... sore ribs today

Did my first 10k trace yesterday!

I was rather unprepared physically (haven’t run 10k since completing ju-ju’s plan in January) but also mentally (I was dreading it and really nervous at the start). Still, it went well and though my time was slow and I had to resort to walking several times towards the end, I was really pleased to have done it.

Would like to try another but with some better preparation, if the weather lets me. I have been running 3 times a week, but mostly 5k’s. I don’t seem to be able to get faster, so I guess I need to do some interval training (which I hate) 🤪 as well as keeping up one long run a week.

Very pleased to have done it, but this morning I have very sore ribs on my left side. What’s all that about?

You’re bound to ache after a race. It could almost be any part of your body 🙂. We always seem to hurt somewhere

As you run longer you will get stronger. You have to put slow miles on your running legs. I don’t like intervals either so I don’t call em intervals. I just speed up mid runs, eg between lamposts, bins or trees etc

Just keep plugging away and you’ll get there 🙂💪😃👍😃

Thanks. I like the sound of slow miles! I just enjoy the process of running but trying to go faster does seem to take some of the enjoyment away. Being in a race brings out the worst in me, as I’m competitive, but at the moment, I have nothing to compete with - ha ha!

I will follow your advice and drop the word ‘intervals’ from my running vocabulary 🤩

You got to the end tho' so well done. Plan your next one and build it up slowly. The aches should be seen as a badge of pride for the effort put in.

You are right, every ache reminds me that I completed a 10k race, which I never thought I would attempt when I started Couch to 5k last year.
