Somewhere between the kids table and the grown ups

Hello, allow me to introduce myself I am OlderThanDirt...I graduated from the C25K last week. My immediate plan, for the next four to five weeks is to consolidate what I now can do ( run 5k) by doing this 2-3 times a week. I don’t know if I will or won’t run to a 10k , but I know what I am like and one of the things I enjoyed about C25K was having weekly goals and an end result so I imagine in time I will probably start running upto 10k🤦🏻‍♂️🤣🤦🏻‍♂️...

But it feels a long way off at the moment and I’m quite happy with little steps first. But I’m interested in listening ( even though we read them!) people’s thoughts and experiences so I will be here lurking in the undergrowth , so I thought best to say hello in case you wondered who the weirdo in the bushes was!

Well, I’m still weird , but at least you know my name now 🤪

Take care 👍🏻

Welcome. Your plan is good, just get into the habit of running regularly for pure joy and forget about time or distance. After a while you'll know what you want to do next.

You are most welcome, and you will find lots of advice in and around this forum. Your plan sounds very sensible and when you are ready there are loads of options to get you to 10k. Well done on your journey so far.

Well done on your graduation OlderThanDirt ...👏🏻...consolidation is key. I haven’t actually managed to run 5k in 30 mins...but I can run 5k & I can run for 30 mins which still completely amazes me!! I’m sure, in time, it will come, but for now, I’m enjoying running however far or for however long...I would love to run 10k but I can’t see that happening any time soon but then again 5k sounded like a distant dream & here I am so who knows?! Our legs are still learning along with our lungs & brain...enjoy your running & try not to put too much pressure on yourself 😉

Welcome :) 10k is a lovely distance as you can nip out and do an hours exercise, burning a reasonable amount of calories and then get on with your day. It's the equivalent to a good gym session burning 600-800cals depending on weight/condition/speed of course. So it's a really useful tool to have in the box, of course once there the HM may beckon :) I think the longer distances as well as bringing reward in of themselves will make the shorter runs better as well. Often people who run 10k for the first time then find a 5k Pb will follow.

Coooeeee 👋

Steady progression to 10k is lovely. It was my favourite time

The weather could be on the turn so the signs are good 💪👍😀

Cross training on non run days is advised. Nothing major. A swim. Walking. Strength. Dancing. Yoga etc. All grist t’mill 💪👍

You're a runner after graduating c25k. Runners run. Just crack-on with your consolidation runs and enjoy it. Extending your runs later will make 5k seem like a warm-up or a sprint as others above have said. You don't have to push the distance and pace limits but it will happen anyway as you build fitness and stamina. Welcome to the looney bin!
