Running on a high (blood pressure diagnosis). Anyone else take meds and run?

So, crap week involving A&E, Doctor, eye hospital appointment and first ever diagnosis of high blood pressure with little bag of pills from nice lady at pharmacy.

Not allowed to run until my eye problems are sorted but the thing is I run to de-stress. I run to stay healthy at 50 plus, to thwart those pesky menopause symptoms, clear my head and generally stay sane.

Blood pressure is probably inherited as my lifestyle is sensible. So have started on the meds (Ramipril). Just wanted to know if anyone else has experience of running with high blood pressure meds? Any advice appreciated.

You know you've got it bad when any medical consultation ends with "Yes Doctor, but can I still run tomorrow?"

Thank you lovely people.

I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and asthma. I’ve been fine so far in terms of progress and times, but I don’t know what running is like for me without the meds as I’ve been on them for years and years. The only symptom I’ve had is aching muscles which initially I put down to not stretching enough and poor gait. But even after doing all the proper stretches post run and buying a foam roller I still ache terribly. I’ve since discovered that aching muscles are a side effect of statins. I’m going to see if the doc can prescribe another variety but for now I just live with it.

I take Ramipril and run. never thought not to!! In fact regular running should help lower your blood pressure - so get your BP taken regularly as you don't want it to go too low
