A question on summer running

So I am sitting on the sofa looking at an arctic blizzard outside and dreaming of warm summer runs.

Quick question, what are people's thoughts on summer running gear, I'm particularly wondering if it is worth buying a proper running compression t shirt or is I should just use a normal t shirt/shorts etc?

Anything but Cotton Chris, can cause chafing as it doesn’t wicker away the sweat.

I tend to wear Polyester or Polyester mix. I’ll probably be wearing running vests when it’s hot, with running shorts which incorporate a mesh liner so no need for boxers 😊

All in my humble opinion of course 🤗

I use Start Fitness which is based in your neck of the woods....

Hi Chris I’ve just bought t/shirts from marks and Spencer’s . I didn’t wear shorts last year just Capri leggings/shorts from marries as well. So much cheaper, I think. But it’s each to their own. I’d shop around and see what’s best for you.

Quick one what is a proper running compression t shirt? A bit behind the times I am I think!

Happy running and stay safe up there beyond the wall!❄️❄️❄️❄️

Id go for wicking gear. Tshirt (cotton) will really hold the moisture and can cause chaffing.

Dont under estimate the challenges of running in the heat. Most of us run crack of dawn , if we have a hot spell even then its tough going 😳😎

I think we're all feeling some spring fever, wishing for some warmer weather running! I know I can't wait!

It all comes down to personal comfort, but will again reiterate the importance of wicking material. I love my running shorts with the built-in mesh underwear. They are very lightweight, dry quickly, and cool. If it is a cooler morning, I may wear gusseted running capris so I can go commando 😳😆. Chafing is not fun, so whatever you chose, stick to the technical fabrics, especially since you're going to be running some longer runs in your HM training. I wonder if a compression t shirt could help with the chafed nipples that some men experience on long runs, or if it would make it worse? I don't know the answer to that - the benefit of being a woman wearing a snug sports bra underneath my loose or form fitted top of choice. But I have experience chafing under my arms from wearing the wrong tank top that rubbed in a weird way. Because of that I tend to prefer to wear a tank top that has a larger, less snug, arm hole if it is quite warm.

Crikey! gussets and chafed nipples.. thought I'd wandered into the wrong forum for a moment.

I'm hoping come the summer, i'm gonna be so lean and trim from all the running that I can just run around in some speedo's like some french man down the riviera.

I’d be more inclined to wear my compression top in winter as they are very tight.

When it’s hot it’s usually a vest. Technical clothing, dri-fit, wicking, clima-cool. Sorta terms used 🙂. Look out for Lidl and Aldi sales! I love Lidl stuff

Start Fitness are good,i’ll second that

Polyamide/Polyester mix compression top is good in winter or summer I find. Great on my bike, cool in summer and warm in winter. Wouldn’t be seen running in it though 😱😊

Mine, from Aldi, is gorgeous but boy it’s tight, which is the point I know, but in summer, noooooo

My husband has been running for over 40 years. He uses running shorts (which his family hastily give him for birthdays when the old ones are getting too ragged) and a vest. He calls them his 'running vests' but they are just plain men's vests - quite loose and baggy. He says he has never had chaffing problems with the dreaded cotton, - he always returns from a run dripping so there is plenty of opportunity! 😃

I much prefer running in the cold to the Summer when it’s hot and sticky. I personally stick to shorts and vest with integral bra. On really hot days I’ll wear it wet or put in the freezer for a while before putting them on to stay cool.

Putting your running kit in the freezer when it's hot- what a great idea, thanks I'll remember that one 😅
