OOh.. my first quest complete w00t!! I said I would run 10k and I have done it twice with the third attempt tomorrow with luck. So challenge achieved. Need to think hard as to what next months challenge will be.. I think I need to do some more of those rignold skwaaats :O

Well done Pink, a great month!

It's been a bit of a mixed Quest, this one. I didn't get up to 16k (which is a shame, given that I have a 16k run next weekend :O ) and I had a major tantrum (shame on me!) .

I did make my Carsington run (hooray!), I did finish Rig's skwaaat challenge, I did (do) enjoy my gym sessions, I did start MFP (and lose some weight) and I benefited hugely from the support of all you lovely people here and over at the other forum for marathon & race support. Thank you!

So I think I'd have to say, on balance, a good Quest. Here's to the next one!

Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

You have done incredibly well Annie! Those gremlin tantrums affect us all at sometime or other. Its one of the things this forum really supports well with!

Good luck with your weekend 16k (10 miler).

Thank you! If it snows I'm not doing it :D

I think they will call it off if it snows. It was such hard going in the pouring rain last year they wont want to further put people off 😳

BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

Yeah! I saw you had done the Carsington 10k Annie and was really pleased for you!

Amazing job and shows real strength and gumption to go out and nail it..

I am inspired by you.😊xx

Thank you, Jan! It went well and I was pleased :)

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

I don't think that was a tantrum at all - that was a meltdown and it happened for very understandable reasons. Arguably not even a meltdown as although it was emotional it certainly seemed perfectly rational to me. And you picked yourself up, dusted yourself down, had the necessarily wee break for rest and reflection and now you are Queen of the Dam Wall (if not Britain's Best Birder)

I note you are skating over needing to schedule some medical intervention too which makes all you've done this month even more impressive.

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Thank you, you are very kind. Yes, the rest did me good and I can heartily recommend it to anyone who is feeling overwhelmed. I think the mind is sometimes stronger than the body but a break really helps both.

I am quite good identifying birds, honestly, but I have never yet seen the wretched thing! Perhaps what I should do is go and walk all the way round and actively search for it with my binocs. But please don't tell it I'm coming.

My target mileage for March is very low. I will (possibly) do Sunday's run, unless it's slippery in which case I will drop out because the last thing I want to do is risk injuring myself and therefore potentially putting this operation off, but after that I'll be done for the month - and April as well, it seems. Oh, well. The roads will still be out there, as I tell others. Perhaps I'll be up to walking round Carsington by the end of it, binocs in hand, and coffee and cake at the end :)

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

Maybe I could join you for a bimble, i can bring my own binocs, and we can have cake of course!

Yes! What a nice idea! I will post on here when I'm feeling recovered enough for a gentle birding stroll :)

Hi Millsie, brilliant Quest, thank you for setting it and I am going to claim your lovely certificate 😊 for February.

Don't know if you saw πŸ˜†πŸ˜‰...but I have finished my up to 10k again challenge, using Ju ju's great plan and ran the 10k on Saturday...

(I might have made a bit of song and dance about itπŸ˜‰)...

A few rest days now to think about what to do next...there may be zombies involved πŸ˜€...

Happy running everyone.😊xx

You’ve had a great month Jan!

Mmmmm, Now let me think....... did I notice a song and dance? I certainly did and rightly so Jan! I was dancing alongside you πŸ˜€πŸ’ƒπŸ»You seem to have really enjoyed getting back to 10k. I need to do the same now you have set the bar xxx

Well not a brilliant week for me!

Did the daily exercises ( well, most days)

But the β€˜lay you low’ bug I picked up lingered until this weekend, so no runs. I walked 2 miles on Friday, pretty pacey, 4 miles yesterday again quite pacey.

Today I managed a short run/walk......3k. I’m happy with that as I was building slowly pre the β€˜lay you low bug’ anyway.

But...... I unintentionally knocked over a minute and half a kilometre off my pace today.........back to my very very quickest pace. I’m not sure how that works, although the daily physio exercises work on glutes too......... could that be helping?

GoogleMeGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Bravo on the being sensible! It rarely gets enough credit.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Hope that 'lay you low bug' has cleared and you continue get stronger and stronger Millsie😊

Well done for keeping up with your physio exercises .. I know how easy it is to let those slip...πŸ˜•xx

Well, so long as I complete my food diary for today (which I shall), I'll have achieved the 16 days this month target. Mostly this has showed me how pitifully little I can eat based on my usual activity levels if I am to lose weight, and thus how important it is to exercise when I can.

And I achieved my 8k run... in fact I did an unexpected 10k, so I am very pleased with that. Also this involved running through the middle of town during business hours which is even more unexpected behaviour. (It was not remotely fleet of foot mind you but I love the certificate all the same, thank you very much)

You did brilliantly Google!

Anniemurph profile image

Oh, well done! You get extra credit for the avoidance dancing and side-stepping you need to do if you run through town during the day!

So my February quest was to complete the last four weeks of the eight week "Zombies, Run!" app 10k speed improvement plan and knock 1 minute off my 10k time at the start of January.

I knocked 2 minutes 4 seconds off my time but didn't finish the plan this week due to the dreaded lurgy. I will claim half a certificate.

I am still coughing up yucky stuff and blowing the rest out of my sinuses at regular intervals. I have been through every colour of the rainbow so far except blue (sorry if that was too much information). I will be stuck indoors for a few more days yet, I fear. This is my first cold since August last year so can't complain too much.

Bring on March, better weather and better health.

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

Well done on knocking time off your 10k, that is great, despite being ill! I am also looking forward to better weather, please oh please 🀞. I have reached my limit this winter. Unfortunately we could still have 2 months of winter weather ☹️. I can wish and dream for an "early" spring on the prairies this year.....

Langley-Loper profile image
Langley-LoperGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

I have about 8" laying snow in my garden today and local schools are closed. I am having a "working from home" day today as the UK grinds to a halt at the merest hint of a flake, let alone 8". Sub zero temperatures and more of the same forecast tomorrow. Whatever you say, we really don't cope with it as well as you!

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

Wow! I can believe 8" would wreak havoc! That sounds like snowman building weather β˜ƒοΈ. Sometimes you just have to get out and play. We just came back from a skiing and snowmobiling holiday - it was frigidly cold with highs in the -20's but we dressed for it, took regular warmup breaks and had a blast. Sometimes you have to embrace winter, but after a February that was 10 degrees cooler than normal for the month I am definitely ready to start complaining about being too hot and too many bugs 🀣

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

I think you had a fab month L-L and can claim that certificate. All that running and improving so much on an already great 10k time!

I think it was that last Zombie that caught you, that has laid you up, you were fine til thenπŸ˜‰....

Hope it passes soon, rest, fluids and a snuggly sofa are allowed😊xx

You have done really well LL , inspite of your illness! Hope you are feeling better soon.

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10

So, unfortunately since starting these wonderful quests, I have sadly failed this month ☹️. I highly doubt I will get my 18k run in by tomorrow having not ran for 3 weeks..... but took a much needed break and feel better for it. Will not be beating myself up for missing this months distance goal, but will look forward to getting back on track with regular runs and WILL run a HM distance in March!

Langley-Loper profile image
Langley-LoperGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

Running in the winter months is always difficult. Let's set ourselves easier quests next year!! You may think you have "failed" but I think you have done brilliantly since January all things considered.

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

Thanks LL. I'm definitely going to be looking at easier quests next year! I signed up for a hilly trail race in September and as much as I wanted to register for the 20k, after my struggles fitting my runs in so far this year, I let clearer minds prevail and signed up for the 10k. I found a great sub 60 min training plan that has the longest run at 16k that I'm itching to start. Sucker for punishment, I guess, but am hoping warmer weather = better motivation 🀞

Aaahh Sask we are in awe at how you get out there for your runs at all! We have a tiny bit of snow in the Uk and everyone is being told to stay indoors ❄️

Totally agree! You have acheived so much in quite a short time, so its nice to know that having had a holiday break to recharge your batteries your chomping at the bit to get back out there...Take it easy on yourself and enjoy your fun week back😊xx

Well I've totally failed at this quest! Niggle knees and A&E visits have meant a disappointing Feb run wise. However I am going to be kind to myself and recognise that I have run whenever I was able to and have got into a good routine with my knee strengthening exercises - and my knees are now feeling ok and and I've had a gait analysis and all of the disappointments have made me feel less guilty about buying NEW SHOES.😁

Here's hoping March contains better journeys all round.

I have also failed to achieve my quest this month. I was hoping to run today ( my quest was to run 5K non stop; managed 4K non stop on Sunday) but I won’t chance it in the 4inches of snow that we have here. Oh well, I will role it over to next month. I am glad that I signed up for the quest as it has really made me focus. Thank you for the invitation and we’ll done to everyone πŸ‘

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Kimterry

It is so much more difficult to increase distance in the colder months Kimterry. You have done well just getting out there, and a 4K is a great distance.πŸ‘πŸΌπŸƒπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

I achieved my Quest goal for February and ran 10km.

This was a bit of a surprise as I ran very few kilometres this month due to a combination of factors: poorly dog (now fully recovered); niggling back injury ( recovered/ not recovered...seems to change daily); family and household 'must dos' (done).

I was thinking of going this afternoon after the worst of the ice melted: the 'Beast from the East' must have damned good hearing as it snowed heavily at dinner time. As I don't need much help to fall and injure myself I decided that my running for February was done: running across fields and tracks, in the middle of nowhere, when you can't see the rabbit holes, badger scrapings and lumps of rock is a no-no. It would be my luck to break my leg where there is no mobile signal, to be found next day frozen to a picture of my wife and dogs on an otherwise useless mobile.

But yet the odd thing is that I don't really mind: although hoping to progress with my running I feel completely relaxed about it with no particular stress or pressure to achieve. I just enjoy chugging along in the countryside I love, two or three times a week. That seems to work for me. The great thing is that I find myself chugging further and further each week and enjoying it more each time too.

That'll do.
