Clicked on this to have a look, and it’s joined me. Im not yet doing 5k and am intending to consolidate my 30 minute runs for a while and see how far they take me. Should I steer clear of this forum till Im doing 5k, or are aspirants welcome too?
Ooops: Clicked on this to have a look, and it... - Bridge to 10K
Ooops
Welcome, welcome! This is a great place for new Graduates to come. There are many, many familiar faces here 😁
You've got a great plan to consolidate your runs and build up to 5k.
Phew! Thank you! I thought I was getting above myself there 😂
Everyone's welcome here, we're all friendly 🤗 Consolidation is the way to go and builds strong running legs and stamina. Enjoy!
Thank you 😊
I wouldn't worry too much Flick: I accidentally activated something that joined me up into the Marathon Running forum (!!), as you will see on my profile. There is more likelihood of Nelson recovering his eye than me ever running a marathon. I now have an iPad that is making uncontrollable laughing and snorting noises.
My wife is aiming for a 10 k later this year but I am content to trundle contentedly around the Shire for a month or two while waiting to see if this is a really dream or a cruel practical joke. I then hope to harness the advice and support on this forum to increase speed and maybe build up the distance.
You never fail to make me literally laugh out loud. Even watching Black Books seldom achieved that! I love your wrangles with technology.
You have a very respectable distance and pace, so I dont see why you cant run a marathon. My sister’s man did the London Marathon in three and a half hours in his fifties, and youve played a lot of sport and do proper swimming (not my feeble snails pace breast stroke) so you should get there. Come a d train in Chipping Norton. That will soon boost your stamina, if it doesnt kill you first 😂
I've already ticked off, 'Running in the Cotswolds' Flick. Not too long ago I went on a little pilgrimage to the grave of one of my heroes, whose writing and poetry had (and still has) a great effect on this simple country lad; I am talking about visiting the resting place of Laurie Lee, in Slad. So affected was I by the moment, that I skipped down the slope from the Churchyard and was running across the road to the Woolpack, when I suddenly realised that even Slad had speedy through traffic that could quickly ruin the day of a lumbering twit who didn't look before belting across to the pub.
It could well have been my last run ...all of 5 metres...and I would never have drunk cider with anyone again, let alone Rosie.
Ah, lovely book, Cider with Rosie. But it’s a mistake to immerse yourself in it to the extent that you forget which century youre in!
Yes! I've been an impostor here for a while!
Hahaha,now Im one too 😂
Hi Flick, plenty of motivation on here too. Feel free to post on both/either site as you consolidate your running.😊xx
Than you, I definitely will xx
don't tell anyone, but I've been lurking here for ages, and I am still barely hitting 4K
You give me hope 😉
we can be the aspirants / impostor posse - though be careful of that Lordi ...what was that about 10K the other day hmmm??
Yes, I saw that and quickly looked away 😳
But what can you expect from someone with Atilla The Hun as their profile pic...
Never run a marathon Pm3! You can if you want. You just train for it 🙂👍🏃♂️
Run one? I struggled to eat one! ( before that awful, black, never-to-be forgotten day when they changed the name to Snickers!)
But yes, who knows: I saw an actual, real live dragon run the London Marathon...amazed I was...so if a mythical beast can, then why not me?
That’s the spirit!
I did exactly the same by accident and lurked here for a while too, before suddenly and unexpectedly finding myself inspired to go for 10k! You never know what strange things might happen to you once yet get involved with these people.....
This is what I feared 😳 still, first 5k...
Of course you are welcome - you'll 'see' many familiar faces!🙂
Thank you...so i see
Consolidation is good but the advice and support given in Bridge 210K is really interesting and encouraging. These forums help so much with the motivation to keep running. I have now reached 10.51 KM last Wednesday but am now aiming to consolidate my running maybe by running 2 x 7KM and one 10KM a week for a couple of weeks before moving on.
yes, I'm finding it helpful already
Welcome! 😀 I wanted to know what lies beyond initially, but didn't want anyone to notice I was lurking as I never had any intention of doing more than 5k. Didn't think I'd get to 5k either. I told my friends I was just out walking the dog...which is odd as I don't have one and they know it! I've been loitering here since about November, and I have to say I don't feel out of place any more. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging. I was certainly surprised when I started increasing my distances. It was never part of the plan. You never know where you'll end up!
That made me chuckle. You are so right, who would have thought i would be running for half an hour without stopping, yet alone be thinking of 5 then 10k.
Hello all lurkers! Everyone is welcome here and we are not a bad bunch! There are many on this site who have many miles under their belt so are able to share their experience which is great!
Slow and steady as we progress still remains great advice, particularly if you are a new graduate aspiring to longer runs.
Happy. Running all!
FlickM3 - I did exactly the same thing a few days ago, but was too embarrassed to step out of the shadows, till I spotted your post. They do seem friendly...
Next stop 'consolidation' - I wish it had a snappier title
Im in good company then. Yes, consolidation sounds rather dull, doesnt it ...
Hello! Exactly the same thing happened to me.
But I'm not planning to go much beyond 5k apart from the fact that going twice round the park will save me from a hilly short cut.
But you never know with this programme...we could end up doing marathons...
Im glad it isnt just me, LOL. and dont discount marathons, you just never know, as you say 😂
I said no more than 5k...famous last words! The hills by me are well worth avoiding, and I did my best for ages. But, the only flat bit we have is a short piece of disused canal which takes maybe 10 mins to run around. I started getting bored, and dizzy, and the dog walkers must have kept thinking 'not you again!', so I started adding just a little bit of the hill into my run. Then a bit more. Then a bit more. My Saturday morning route takes me up about 180 metres now. Hills are supposed to really help your running. So I guess you should never say never!! Embrace those mini mountains! I totally understand why you might want to put it off for a bit though. 😉
I cant put off hills, not unless I ran up and down the same short stretch of pavement for half an hour. I slowed right down today and they flattened out for me a bit. Though I went the less hilly route. I ran down the steep one.
I joined this one a few weeks ago (before I graduated c25k). Not sure if I'll ever reach 10k, but it is inspirational
It certainly is, and of course we will reach 10k. we didn't think we would finish c25k at one time...yes? go us!
Exactly! This time last month I was resting up after an injury. Last night I ran 5k in 28 minutes dead and carried on to 5.74k in 32 minutes
so why wouldn't you be able to do 10k? I believe i will, and i haven't reached 5 yet!
