I'm new ... trying get from 5k to 10k...was going really well then had an inner knee problem. But was told this is just age so cant do anything about it. Im only 52 but i guess thats half a century. This pain comes on and off so wont resolve itself longterm I have to run with it. It does disappear when I am running but comes back when I am back home cooldown...any ideas?
inner knee age based?: I'm new ... trying get... - Bridge to 10K
inner knee age based?
Who told you it was 'old age'! If I were you I would try and speak with a Sports Physio. This could be various things from a warning sign (which might develop in to injury) to something that could be rectified by the correct srengthening exercises and stretches. Have you heard of 'runners knee' - (an umbrella term ) - have a Google.
Knee problems are common but definately not something that is inevitable. They are often caused by overtight muscles in the quads or IT band issues. (also worth googling). As someone who has had problems with a niggly knee myself and am currently much better(at 55) there is lots you can do to help. Footwear can make a huge difference too - again, a physio can advise you on this or you could get a gait analysis if you haven't had one yet.
Don't assume this can't be corrected - good luck! 🙂
thks u maybe right ther e I seen a physio who put it down to old age...ur assessment was better
Sports physio sorted out my knee issue
( it was also a bit older than yours!).
The key question was, did you have issues prior to running? No, then we should be able to fix it!.
3 sessions, new trainers 18 months later, all ok. Touch wood!!!!
Make sure you see a sports physio rather than a physio through your gp. I’m older than you and have historically had knee, hip, groin problems all of which have disappeared since starting c25k last August. Running over 100k a month. Good luck and happy running 🤗
Is your GP a teenager?! 52 is no age! I've had knee problems too (I'm 69!) & after a 10 day break from running managed to see my fantastic sports massage therapist. She overhauled both legs and I'm ready to go out there again. GPS tend to prescribe tablets or refer to "regular" physios who often just give you standard exercises. You need a specialist as others have already said. Best of luck and remember it's exercise that keeps us young!!
