So off I trotted for Run 1 of my journey to 10k. Just 2.5k tonight I thought, I will run this at a really quick pace I thought. So I did the first kilometre in 5.33 which as it turned out was far to fast, half way through the second kilometre I was huffing and puffing and I staggered over the line at a pace slower than my normal 5k/6k pace.
Ah well, the run is done and a lesson learnt, or in my lesson re learnt!!!.
Looking forward to a "normal" 5k on Saturday.

Good luck! I'm doing this too and am really enjoying it, but I make an extra effort to go really slowly. Initially I thought the shorter runs would be a good chance to go faster, they seemed 'easy' in comparison to the longer ones, but that didn't work for me either! I find that going super slow means I end the runs feeling pretty good (apart from the jelly legs after the long ones!) For me it's more a mental battle, but ju-ju's programme works and i'm on my way! 🏃 Keep us posted how you get on!
Keep to your normal pace Chris, at least a pace you feel you can maintain for 6miles 😊
Been doing a lot of gym work whilst laid up. Doing 5k Saturday, if that goes well, another 5k Weds before my 10K run on 21st. Fingers crossed I get round, missed some training, c’est la vie 🙄
Those short runs can trick us up sometimes 😂. I really enjoyed doing intervals doing these runs. It allowed me to run some shorter quicker bursts mixed in with slower recovery run periods. You could consider fartlek runs where there is no set interval, you just pick a landmark that isn't too far away and run quick to it then slow down until fully recovered, find another landmark and repeat. you can also set up specific intervals throughout the run, just make sure you're well warmed up before the first interval. It's a great way to mix up the runs so not every run is ran the same way at the same pace all the time. That being said, it is important to limit this sort of speed work to a short run and only once a week because they are harder on the legs and lungs (but are oh so fun 😊)
