It was another cold, crisp, and dark morning as I set out on another week of running. I had it in mind to do my long run and as part of the December challenge to extend the distance somewhat (my long run tending to be about 11-14km).
As the sun rose above the eastern horizon of the lake district fells I was already 2-3km in and having to gingerly negotiate numerous patches of black ice. This meant that my pace was purposely slower than usual, not a problem as I was going for distance rather than speed.
There were a couple of 'Bambi moments' shall we say as I carried on and slowly the distance built up. Thankfully the ice patches lessened in the second half of what turned into to a really pleasing 16.7km by the end.
Really pleased to have run so far. The question that formed in my mind is this. is a half-marathon on the cards, perhaps not immediately but with another 5 or 6 months under my belt? Not something I ever thought I'd be thinking about but who knows... Only two shorter runs left this week and next week is another recovery week, including a jaunt on Christmas day morning before church and then the turkey Happy days!
