Im just back from my first 'free' run since doing ju ju's 10k plan a few weeks back. No Mapmyrun lady, Laura or Sammi to measure anything or coach me. Just my music and an old favourite route in mind.
I haven’t done this route since August as it is has hills and its where I have struggled in the past to eek it out to a 5k run... today was only 4.2k but I felt so strong and easy all the way. That training routine of longer and shorter runs IS brilliant for stamina and speed. My pace today felt slow and steady and I didn't feel a toxic ten mins but on looking at my stats I was faster on all of my splits😊...
So one very happy girl here..yes I feel young and fit with a spring in my step..so pleased I got out to run in the luke warm sunshine.
This morning I did Day 20 of the Marcothon Challenge. Only 11 days left! It has certainly been a challenge to try to fit in a run every day around work and everything else in December. Also we had several very icy days, which was an added challenge. I bailed to the dreadmill for a couple of them actually, and fell on one of the days I did venture outside (unscathed other than dented pride thankfully).
I am a very slow runner so my distances haven't been at all impressive, but my husband says, "You're lapping everyone still on the couch, Anne". As I have a very sedentary job I think this has helped me get away with not having rest days. I seem to be injury-free anyway, and I had committed myself to stopping at the first sign that it was taking its toll.
I graduated 5K a couple of weeks ago and I am currently consolidating through the end of December to actually start Ju-ju's 10K plan in January.
My plan this month was to run 3 times a week for at least 5K, and maybe add half a km or a full km on the 3rd one. Got stopped on Tuesday by a minor ankle injury at 4.5k so I'll probably give it a rest until Saturday, with only a 3k walk today.
