Morning everyone, and welcome to the second week of the 6 week programme to get you from 5 to 10k. How have you got on during the first week?
I have had a mixed week of good and bad . I have a cold ( bad) but I reached day 332 on my runstreak (good) ..do not try this at home! . It has become normal for me just to get out of bed and run which feels right!
So for week 2 you need to do:
3k
5k
6k
So this week I would like you to think about your breathing. I share some of my own tips in my vid, and I think this article is useful. I like the fact that they say it's better to breathe through your mouth as I have NEVER been able to breathe through my nose when I run!!!
Well I got through week one so tomorrow I'll start on week 2! I prioritise the longer run to the weekend as that's when I have more time so it looks like 6k in the morning.
And today I managed the 6k. This marks only the 5th time I've run 5K or more so I'm feeling very happy. Next weekend I'm doing my second 5k race (though this is rather civilised - no timing and brunch at the end). If you'd told me last year that I'd be seriously considering a midnight 5k on New Years Eve I'd have laughed in your face. Who knows at this rate I may even one day manage a 10k.
I managed week 1 as well, despite developing a tooth abscess - ouch - and now on antibiotics for it. Will do my best on the coming week, though I think be having either a root canal or an extraction, depending on my dentist's recommendation, so will have to see if I can keep up with the programme.
I was laid low by back pain for the whole week (blame cute wriggly grandson) - seeing Physio next week. But managed 4.8k βkeep warmβ run/walk, also by the sea, this morning. So am well out of synch already now but enjoying cheering you all on. Think of me as a tail walker?? πNice vid thanks juju.
It's great to have this focus ju-ju- . I managed to fit in all the runs, found the short one a bit gruelling with the 30-20-10 technique as I was tired after work but it must've been beneficial as I had a faster pace than usual on the 5.5k but it felt comfortable. Thanks for the breathing tips. Hoping the next run isn't too snowy!!
I've decided I'm not ready for 10k but will focus on achieving 2-3 30min runs per week, and improving pace. Week 1, so far so good. Love the tips too π Tried 5min of reflector post sprints on Tuesday which helped on the home stretch.
I managed 6k this morning despite it being -4c. I tied my yaktrax for the first time and they were brilliant no slipping or sliding. I just avoided the
Thick icy patches but they were great on everything else. Took this run nice and steady as it was made re about increasing my distance and endurance. Completed it in 51 mins so pleased with that βοΈβοΈπββοΈ
I did Parkrun on Saturday so that is my 5K tonight roads and footpaths permitting I will do my 3K then Wednesday my 6K. Only worry for me is that all of a sudden I have ballooned from 95.3 KG (lowest weight ever) to 97.3KG as my body has been telling me it wants more.
I am really enjoying this, it's so great to have some structure and encouragement again. I set out yesterday evening after work and thought I'd just do the 3k as it was cold and windy, but felt good so I ended up doing the 5k! I'm sure if I wasn't on this programme I'd have found an excuse not to go at all. I felt fantastic when I came back in, after spending the rest of the day sitting behind a computer. Thanks ju-ju- !
2nd run of wk 2 done. Did the 3k which was hard work tonight much harder than the 6k on Sunday. Will do the 5k at a Park run on Saturday πββοΈπββοΈ
