Bridge to 10K

Had a nasty shock on Thursday

No, I didn't run into the temporary bus stop that has appeared on my 5k route. It's tricky to spot in the dark but I just missed it.

It was potentially worse than that. My parent company is closing the site where I work with all jobs going in January. Merry Christmas to you too!

Friday I sulked. Saturday morning I opted for grocery shopping over running (lost the plot). Driving home I nearly had the front of my car taken off by an ancient driver who had clearly forgotten what indicators are for. Arrived home in tears. Had lunch (nice crusty baguette) and coffee. About 1.30 put on running gear. Procrastinated for 15 mins (nowhere near the record 9.5 hours on this site) and set off. Three laps of the village, 10k and a supply mission completed on Zombies, Run and I felt much better. Watched Bad Moms film in the evening. Had me laughing out loud. I can SO relate to It!!

Looking on the bright side, until I find another job I can run every day if I want. :-) There is much written about the mental health benefits of exercise and I am sure my newly rediscovered love of running will help me through. It certainly lifted me out of the doldrums yesterday.

Love reading everyone else's posts on this site, they often have me chuckling over my breakfast. I also piggyback on the motivational things you all say to each other, most recently Jan's wobbles on the route to 10k that I was having too. We both got there.

Onwards and upwards!

PS: Anyone need a project manager in Kent....?

That's an awful Christmas present. But there's still time to get a proper present. Good luck with your job-hunting and let's hope running can keep you sane.

I am so sorry to hear about this turn in your career. The same thing happened to me around 8 years ago, and it eventually turned into a real blessing, as my career took a very different turn and I work for myself now. And most days I love it. But it took a long, worrisome while to get there. I guess Im just trying to say that sometimes great opportunities are very well disguised in disappointment. Wishing you all good things for however this rolls out.

I'm trying to think what new venture I could start with my redundancy money. Hubby says no to a cattery in the back garden!

Haha.My daughter would love a cattery and maybe a doggery too (if that’s a thing). 🙂You never know where things might go. In the meantime Helenwheels’ idea of a reassessment of what you really want, is also something to maybe consider. May the wind be always at your back both in running and in your job search.

Oh no Langley-Loper, so sorry to hear this, and rubbish timing too.😐 I saw that a couple of the banks are closing many of their branches...and imagine that many people will be in this position. I do hope you find a new position soon and hopefully something you will find interesting and rewarding.

Well done on another 10k... but please don't run everyday just because you can.*rest days are sacred unless you are Ju ju*😉

Running is good for you mentally and physically, and reading and posting on this forum full of lovely and inspirational people will help keep your spirits up. Let us know how your job hunting goes...I like your cattery idea😼😸😽...

Good luck 😊xxxx

Is your car actually ok...was it hit, or a near miss😐

Fortunately the car was a near miss - that was the last thing I needed.

Banks closing branches, Saga getting rid of 100 staff, they are all at it. No new running kit for me for a while, I'll keep going in my ancient tops and bottoms for a while yet. Good job I already have good snazzy shoes :-)

Really sorry to hear the bad news (well done for missing the bus stop though!) I agree with Decker - sometimes these moments allow for a re-assessment and maybe the chance to think about what you want to do with your life. I went self employed when I had my third baby and found myself at work with odd shoes on- something had to give! It has not been easy but now (17 years on mind you) it was the best thing I ever did. So take a little time to lick your wounds and then see where you might like to spend the next phase of your life. Good luck :)

So sorry to hear about your job. There is never a good time, but around Christmas always feels that much worse. I like to think things happen for a reason and good will come out of this (although it may not feel like it now). As others have said, take some time to get your bearings, reassess where you want to go and how you want to do it and enjoy the many health and mental benefits our lovely running offers us. Keep us posted, your running family is always here for you.

If a delay of 15 minutes counts as procrastination for you, then you are definitely one determined lady and the only doubt for your employment prospects must be the actual availability of anything you would want to do.

Hoping you can find the space to think about your dreams and aspirations and that you find the right thing for you in the not too distant future.

Today it's Christmas Quiz Day at work. We are also doing our Christmas jumper day today as we have auditors in on the day of the national jumper day. Wednesday it's Christmas Lunch. All this was arranged before they decided they didn't need us any more. I intend partaking wholeheartedly. Don't let the bas**rds grind you down and all that.

I've heard my name has been put forward to be one of the employee reps. Something to add to the cv!

A quick run round the block might be in order this evening....
