And a great time was had by all!

Others have already posted on our VV10k today and have it all spot on! I wasn’t too sure about actually entering a race, virtual or not, as at my slow pace it seemed a bit silly. But enter I did and really enjoyed it! As ever, Dexy5 was in charge of administration and UpTheStanley was official handicapper and starter. I tried to persuade him to let me go off a bit earlier than he’d set for me but no, he wasn’t having any of it so 8.45 it was! Wind, rain and seaweed on our prom were the order of the day but I was very happy to meet up with Coddfish at the 3.2K point. She said she’d do 5k with me then walk back to the finish line to cheer us all in but as she was running at my pace she was able to join me right to the end. So I had a lovely pacemaker helping me on to a 10k PB of 1:37:53 and she also did a longer run than she’s been able to for a while, so winners all round! Yes, I know that’s slow but, hey, I’m an OldGirlRuns and 18 months ago there’s no way I could or would have ever thought of doing that 🥳! It was great to have VRBs joining us; cheekychipmunks I already knew but it was lovely to meet Wimborne and Linda9389 for the first time! And Mr Coddfish also turned out to cheer us in so all in all, super sociable (at a distance of course!). As ever, food had to be taken after the event and our local cafe came up trumps again! And you know what? I might even be tempted to do it again😳!

Thank you Granspeed! Yes, despite my appalling running style ( someone took a vid of me finishing😱!) I am constantly amazed at the fact I’m actually doing this!

From the photo I recognise Dexy and cheekychipmunks, but I need help with the two behind. Are you one of them or perhaps you are taking the photo? I shall have to dream of running for now. I am due to have a phonecall appointment with a physio tomorrow, first appointment with a physio since my fall. I am most interested to know what they say.

Oldgirlrun’s response To you is down below over61.

Good luck with your physio appointment. I bet you’ll be glad to get moving again. I hope all is well with you and OH otherwise.

That was a great day and run for you today OGR, very good planning from UTS for the 10K course, good photo, I recognise Dexy5 and Cheekychipmunks in the photo but not sure who the other two on the right side of the picture. 😊 🏃🏾

OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Thank you Alan - yes we all had a really good time! The others are Linda9389 and Wimborne who, along with Cheekychipmunks, drove fair distances to be able to join our group of 6!

Back in May, it was the 25th of that month, a Monday, the Healthunlocked B210K group asked runners to this post to run the Virtual London 10 000, I changed my midweek longer run from Wednesday to Monday and ran that 10K in a time of 1.13.21, of course that was the unofficial London 10 000, today was the official one which I did not run, I ran a 11K last Wednesday in at time of 1.23.27.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Well done Al. Are you heading for 10 miles?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate10 in reply to Dexy5

Last Wednesday I was going to run for 2 and 3/4 hours and see how far I got, however, after running for 1 hour and 23 minutes I decided to stop at 11K, certainly sometime in the future, not too long I will prepare myself for a second 10 miles run or longer.

I have just heard on the news that there is drama happening on a large ship about 5/10 miles out at sea from Portsmouth.

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy5Graduate10 in reply to AlMorr

Yes my phone just buzzed that. I will have to listen to the news tonight.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to AlMorr

I’m sure you’ll get back to 10 miles soon Alan! Yes, I’ve seen the article on the ship as well - stowaways getting violent with the crew I think! There are always loads of ships moored off the Island (it’s free for them which being in port wouldn’t be!) but we’re too far away to see anything going on.

Hey, well done OG! You've got to do it again, especially when we can finally do it all together in person 😃👏👏👏

Thank you TC! Yes, I’m looking forward to the time when we can all run together- crikey, there’ll be a bus load of us!

Thank you over61!. Yes, I took the photo (you can imagine plenty were taken!). The other 2 are Linda9389 and Wimborne. Up The Stanley missed it as he was changing in the car at the time and therefore in a state of undress! I hope your phone appt tomorrow has some positive news for you - good luck!

Thank you Oldgirlruns and Dexy5 for helping me spot your reply. Very pleased with physio telephone appointment today. Lots of exercises to do. 😊 The physio sent me an email which included the schedule of exercises and video clips of them, so I shall know exactly what to do. No running though. Another appointment in 4 weeks.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to over61andstilltrying

So glad to hear you had a positive outcome from your appointment over61! Good luck with the exercises!

Dexy5 profile image

That’s excellent. My physio uses that system too. It’s so much easier than looking at pictures of stick men! Good luck with exercises.

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate10

Look at you - congratulations!! A Pb AND the buzz of thinking you’ll do it again! It’s amazing what the encouragement of a few friends can do - and that’s not to mention your VRBs. Well done - hope you’re not suffering this morning (I’ve got rubbed skin on the inside of both ankles - an unwelcome first for me 😟)

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Sybilw

Sorry to hear about your ankles Sybilw, I hope they clear up soon- keep applying the ointment! I’ve not had that problem but I do sometimes manage to bang my heels together- no idea how but one of these days I’m going to trip myself up! No real aches today - I’m gently doing some exercises as I go through some long overdue housework! I’m meeting up with Dexy5 for a coffee later so that’s my reward!

Sybilw profile image
SybilwGraduate10 in reply to Oldgirlruns

Oh - I should do housework too (it’s SO overrated!!). Enjoy your coffee and cake of course! ☕️ 🍰

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10

Well done Oldgirlruns. How brave to enter and how well you got on. I think there are a lot of us who won't ever manage 10k in an hour like some of the super runners. However just look how long you can run.

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Lifluf

Thanks Lifluf - no, I’ll never be close to an hour for 10k which makes it much easier for me because I don’t have to fret about my times!

Lifluf profile image
LiflufGraduate10 in reply to Oldgirlruns

Yes me too. One of the advantages of being 'of mature years' means there's less pressure to push oneself beyond what's enjoyable.

Coddfish profile image

I hope you had no ill effects afterwards and that it gave you confidence at the distance. Won't it be nice when you can enter Vitality 10K (or similar) when it's a full on event?

Oldgirlruns profile image
OldgirlrunsGraduate10 in reply to Coddfish

No ill effects thanks Coddfish, a bit of a walk today with Dexy and UTS which stretched things out a bit. Hope you’re OK after your run yesterday?
