In support of RFC’s core programme:
As part of my run training, for the past twelve months on my rest days I have been doing Pilates and yoga. My physio recently congratulated me on my core strength and my range of movement (I’m 60), so I think it’s working 😃.
Pilates was devised as a rehabilitation technique to use following injury. It is said to be based on yoga techniques but it aims to strengthen, particularly the Core.
Below is a link to a session I use on my Smart TV........but can be picked up on any device via Youtube. No fee required and can be done anytime. Great for those winter mornings when you cannot get out for a run!
Why not take a look? It will link nicely with the work we have been doing with RFC’s core workout exercises. But I warn you, Sophia on the video makes it look easy, however a full session can be pretty hard going if it is all new to you.
Who knew a ‘plank’ would lead on to ‘threading the needle’! If you have never done Pilates or yoga before maybe watch it and decide if a Pilates class might be for you, if so you may want to get some instruction at a local session and then go on to do your own class.
As always take it steady and stay within your limits. Filter out what does not work for you. If in doubt, leave it out,
Happy Pilates, Happy Running and remember .......Use it or Lose it.
