I am not sure Strava is good for me.....or maybe it is!!

I started C25k back in March with very few people knowing that I was doing it. I recorded each run on my old fitbit but kept the stats to myself. I recently upgraded to the new ionic fitbit which has a strava app on it. My husband kept encouraging me to join strava but I held off. I eventually joined a couple of weeks ago and quickly found the C25K 'club' and joined that too....

Last week I only recorded one run as it was half term and I only actually got out on Wednesday (I did a couple of quick treadmill sessions as well), so this week was really my first full week.

Off I went on Monday for my morning run where I have no time limits and can just please myself - 9k later I had set new records (well I am new to Strava) and was near the top of the weekly leader board. I didn't really think I was competitive until I saw myself slip down the board yesterday as there were a lot of second runs going on...

Wednesday night I have an hour to kill in a local town so this has become run night. I thought I would do 7k and looked at the leader board to guess where I might end up. So, off I went. Now there are these segment things that I have learned about and obviously I am no where near the top which is the place of the longer term 'professional' runners but I have run this particular loop and know there are two segments on it - the competitor in me kicked in - could I beat my previous time...Well yes, I did on both segments and I also did 8k and I also did my first sub 7min per k run (which did include a couple of breathers as I didn't realise the speed I was doing).

So the net result, having joined Strava and the C25K club on it, I have discovered how competitive I am. I was lying in third place by the end of the run - lets see what happens on my next run on Saturday.

I love Strava as its a great way to look at all your stats. I also love seeing if my runs are trending faster etc and flybys are the most entertaining thing ever!! Enjoy :)

Oh don't get me wrong, I love it and am addicted in such a short time. I just didn't realise how competitive I would be with myself!! As I am still a learner I am trending faster so it is a great encouragement.

I don’t compare myself to others - just to myself really.

I must follow you on strava if I can work out who you are in real life.
