Not sure why it has taken me so long to complete a Park Run (probably because I tried it 3 1/2 years ago without ever having run and it put me off ever doing it again!)
Yesterday morning was the time to have another go and what a lovely morning it was.
Norwich Park Run is held at Eaton Park which is a beautiful place to go. I have spent many a Sunday here with my son over the years playing in the park, learning to ride his bike, watching him as he progressed onto the scooter ramps and picnics after a game of football. Yesterday it was time to do something for me. I went alone as my family were left in bed!
Over 500 people come most weeks and many are club runners - if I’m honest this is probably what’s put me off! It needn’t have. A very welcoming and friendly group of mixed ability.
I was pleased I ran the whole 5k without stopping which was my goal. I thought running laps would be hard, particularly at the point I was being lapped by the fast ones, but it was ok. I managed a respectable 33 minutes and finished in 420th place which shows you the speed of the fast ones!!!
I really enjoyed my Park Run experience. I can see that Park Run is about so much more than running. There were so many people chatting away to each other whilst running (obviously much fitter than me!) catching up on news and motivating each other along. Many hung around after and had a coffee and made the most of the beautiful weather.
There are 4 Park Runs all within 10 miles of my home - I look forward to visiting the other 3 soon !
