Using "ladders" for exercise

Now that I am not running for a while, I have joined a gym - and am actively looking for other exercise opportunities. Went camping this weekend and found some outdoor gym equipment. Decided to concentrate for a few times on one machine - which I will call a "pull-down" machine. Basically you sit on a seat and pull down on two handles which raises your body weight. Now - "ladders" are a form of exercise that allow you to do a LOT more repeats of the exercise than you could do "normally" . It's a bit like run/walk :) I could only do 20 repeats of this exercise before muscle failure ( that point where you just can't do another one) - so the next day , after warming up, I did an up and down ladder up to 10 repeats only . This looked like 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 -- add all of these up and you will get 100. . Each set of repeats is followed by a suitably long rest -- in this manner I was able to do 100 repeats of this exercise. I know from previous experience that this works exceedingly well when doing pushups and situps. :)

No!! That is the great thing about "ladders" - they allow you to do a large number of exercise repeats quite easily over and above what you could do in one go. I "can" do 20 in one go - so can do up to only 10 very easily - taking a short rest in between each set and only going as far as 10 in one go, got me to do 100 in total :) I did "feel" it the next day though :)

I am impressed!

This is interesting - I may try it. I thought you meant real ladders though... I've been up and down our scaffolding today emptying buckets under various sections of our guttering that we haven't got round to fully sealing yet! Rain never comes when it's convenient does it 😌
