Hi Folks
I have to share as I know you folks will get how happy I am.
I've been building my distance as a way of getting my pace up in 5K's as well as trying to get to a comfortable 10k. My plan this morning was to do a steady run at 70% of my 5K pace keeping my heart rate at 135-140 rather than focussing on pace.
I started off and felt really good, my breakfast banana was kicking in and I had plenty of energy. I was moderating my heart rate nicely and just really got into the zone, not too taxing and still able to sing along to Celo at 60 minutes.
I was hoping to do around 8KM but wasn't really setting a specific goal more just maintains a comfortable pace... then something happened. I realised I can actually do this and cruised on past 8KM and head for 9KM with a nice steady rhythm and my heart tripping along at 140 and no aches or pains.
I decided to stop at 10 even though I felt I could keep going, what I did do though is speed up to my target 5KM 6:00 pace for the last 1km which felt really smooth and natural.
I coasted through 10KM in 1:16:56 with a huge grin on my face.
Not sure if that makes me a 10K graduate but it certainly made me feel like a runner.
Feeling fit and wearing out running shoes
*edit* It was 1:16:56 and not 1:14:56... shaved two minutes off in my excitement
